Campgrounds and RV parks near Vivian, LA

Caddo Lake anchors most trip plans. The lake holds more than 70 species of fish, and Caddo Lake State Park offers a fishing pier and boat ramp. Anglers fishing the Louisiana side of the lake need a Louisiana license, while Texas rules apply on the Texas side. Paddling is the signature activity. Canoes can be rented at the Caddo Lake State Park office, and experienced paddlers can venture onto Hell's Half Acre Paddling Trail. The park also offers 2.5 miles of trails, including the Caddo Forest Trail with steps up to a historic CCC pavilion. Families staying near Vivian often mix lake time with a day trip into Shreveport-Bossier for casinos, museums, and restaurants. Alligators live in the park, and visitors should read the park's alligator safety tips before a visit, especially when traveling with kids or pets.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV camping around Vivian. Daytime highs are mild, humidity is lower than in summer, and bald cypress color peaks in autumn. Spring brings the heaviest rainfall of the year, so campers should expect wet ground and plan for muddy sites after storms. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. Mosquitoes are heavy at Caddo Lake, so bug spray is essential. Shaded sites and full-hookup rigs with working air conditioning are strongly preferred in July and August. Weekends and holidays fill early: Caddo Lake State Park often reaches capacity and reservations are highly recommended for both camping and day use. Winter camping is quiet and mild by North American standards, though cold snaps do occur. First freeze typically occurs mid-November and the last freeze around mid-March, so RVers should be ready to disconnect hoses on the coldest nights. Some private parks reduce services in the off-season, and shower houses at smaller parks can feel drafty in winter.

Terrain around Vivian is gently rolling piney woods sliding into cypress bayou near the lake. Roads to the private parks are generally paved and manageable in larger rigs, though some rural and lake-access roads narrow quickly and are best scouted before towing in a big trailer. Caddo Lake State Park offers 46 campsites ranging from water-only to full-hookup sites, plus screened shelters and historic CCC cabins. On-site shopping is limited, so plan to bring firewood, groceries, and other supplies, and expect spacious sites, a playground, and limited cell service near the lake. The county is under an emerald ash borer quarantine that restricts moving firewood, so buy firewood where it will be burned. Alligators, snakes, and heavy mosquitoes are part of the ecosystem. Pack insect repellent, keep pets leashed, and give wildlife a wide berth, especially near shorelines at dawn and dusk.
