Campgrounds and RV parks near Wilton, ME

Wilson Lake sits at the edge of downtown Wilton and offers a public beach, swimming, kayaking, and fishing. Kineowatha Park adds lakeside sports fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas that work well for families breaking up a driving day. Mount Blue State Park is the region's main outdoor destination. The campground, hot showers, sand beach with bathhouse, boat launch, amphitheatre, and nature center are featured in the Webb Lake area, and a park interpretive naturalist leads scheduled hikes and programs during the summer months. The Center Hill area provides scenic overlooks, nature trail, and extensive multiple use trails open to ATVs, horses, hikers, and mountain bikes, and Mount Blue is also a popular day hike. Wilton also serves as an access point to extensive snowmobile and ATV trail networks that cross western Maine, useful for RVers hauling toy haulers in the shoulder seasons.

Most private campgrounds around Wilton operate on a warm-weather schedule, typically opening in May and closing in October. Peak demand runs from late June through Labor Day, driven by lake swimming, hiking, and family vacations. Reserve well ahead for the Fourth of July and any weekend in August. At Mount Blue State Park, the campground on Webb Lake runs through the warm-weather months, and during summer months, park staff routinely offer canoe trips, walks, and nature programs. After Labor Day, visitor numbers drop significantly, creating quieter conditions through fall, which makes early autumn a strong window for cool nights and foliage color across the western mountains. Winter transforms the area. Mount Blue State Park is open year-round, and the region draws snowmobilers, cross-country skiers, snowshoers, and ice-skaters in winter, with a heated yurt located next to the ice rink. The drive-in campground itself, however, is not a winter RV destination. Mud season in April and early May can leave dirt access roads soft.

Sites around Wilton tend to be wooded, with mature evergreens providing shade and privacy. At Mount Blue State Park, each site includes a picnic table and stone-backed fire ring with grill gate. There are primitive restrooms and water faucets throughout the campground, as well as dishwashing stations and restrooms with showers. The campground has one-way roads, so be careful when driving, and it is worth bringing a headlamp or lantern to find the bathroom at night as the bath house with running water can be a sizable walk from many sites. Cell coverage in the western mountains is spotty, so download offline maps before leaving Route 2 or Route 4. Black flies peak in late May and June, mosquitoes follow through midsummer, and black bears are present in the region, so store food and trash securely. Nights cool off quickly even in July, so pack layers regardless of forecast highs.
