Campgrounds near Boxford, Massachusetts
Boxford sits in Essex County on the North Shore, roughly 25 miles north of Boston and within a short drive of the Atlantic coast, the New Hampshire border, and the Merrimack Valley. RV travelers use the town as a base for both inland forest camping and beach trips, since the area straddles the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) state forest system and a cluster of private RV parks along Route 1 and the coast.
The closest public campground is Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park, a DCR campground set in more than 3,000 acres of hardwood, hemlock, and white pine forest, with a limited number of sites offering electric hookups. To the north, private parks near Salisbury Beach and the New Hampshire border include Tuxbury Pond RV Resort, Rusnik Campground, Beach Rose RV Park, and Black Bear Campground.
Together these options cover most RV needs: state-forest sites for shaded, quiet stays and private parks with full hookups, pools, and easy beach access.
Things to do near Boxford
Inland, Harold Parker State Forest anchors day activity for RV travelers staying nearby. Recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, hunting, horseback riding, and picnicking, with pond swimming available in summer. Boxford State Forest and adjacent DCR properties add more trail mileage for families with kids and dogs.
On the coast, Salisbury Beach State Reservation is the main draw, extending several miles along the Atlantic Ocean from the Merrimack River north to the New Hampshire border, with a long stretch of sandy beach. Newburyport's waterfront, Plum Island, and whale-watching charters are close by, and Hampton Beach in New Hampshire adds a boardwalk scene about 15 minutes further north.

Camping in the Boxford area is a warm-season activity. DCR campgrounds, including Harold Parker State Forest, generally run from April through October, and private parks in the area follow similar windows, with most opening between mid-April and mid-May and closing between late September and mid-November.
July and August are the peak weeks, when coastal parks fill early for weekends and holidays. Late May, June, and September offer cooler nights, thinner crowds, and better site selection at both state and private campgrounds.
Fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October, but by then many private parks have winterized water lines and most DCR sites are closed for the season. Harold Parker State Forest reduces its camping days during the fall months. Winter camping is not available at any of the nearby campgrounds listed here, so RV travelers should plan trips between spring opening and fall closure.

How to book campgrounds near Boxford
State-park sites at Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park are booked through the Massachusetts DCR reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made up to four months in advance of the arrival date, so if campers plan to arrive on August 12, the earliest they can book is April 12. Walk-in camping is not accepted, though same-day reservations are available until 2 p.m. through ReserveAmerica. The electric sites at Lorraine Park book out first, so setting a reminder for the four-month window is worthwhile.
Private parks each use their own systems. Tuxbury Pond RV Resort books through its Encore/Thousand Trails parent, while Rusnik Campground, Beach Rose RV Park, and Black Bear Campground take reservations directly by phone or through their websites. For July, August, and holiday weekends, plan to book two to three months out, earlier for oceanfront sites.
What to expect on-site
At Harold Parker State Forest Lorraine Park, sites feel like classic New England forest camping. Campsites are spread out through the woods, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, and the campground offers water spigots, a dump station, and comfort stations with showers and flush toilets. Cell service can be patchy under the tree canopy.
Private parks lean more toward full-hookup convenience. Rusnik Campground and Black Bear Campground both offer full-hookup and big-rig sites, swimming pools, playgrounds, and rec areas typical of family-oriented RV resorts. Beach Rose RV Park is smaller and closer to the sand near Salisbury, while Tuxbury Pond RV Resort adds pond frontage, pools, and a gated entry. Expect tighter site spacing than at the state forest in exchange for hookups and amenities.

The Massachusetts RMV does not require a special endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal recreational vehicles, including Class A, Class C, campervans, and travel trailers commonly listed on RVezy. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID directly through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Boxford RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy for every reservation, including a money-back grace period after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Cancellation terms depend on factors like how far out your trip start date is and circumstances such as severe weather (think New England nor'easters or a coastal storm warning for Plum Island). Because RVezy, not the individual host, manages cancellations, you get consistent treatment no matter which listing you choose. Full details are visible during checkout. Pro tip: book early for fall foliage weekends in Essex County, then relax knowing your plans are protected.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Boxford?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Boxford options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Boxford itself is dog heaven: Boxford State Forest and Bald Hill Reservation both allow leashed dogs on miles of trails, and nearby Crane Beach in Ipswich permits dogs on the beach from October 1 through March 31. Many hosts also provide dog-friendly extras like outdoor mats or portable water bowls. Pro tip: message the host to confirm your dog's size and breed before booking, and ask about their cleaning policy so your refundable deposit returns smoothly.
mass.gov/locations/boxford-state-forestCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Boxford?
Yes, RV delivery Boxford is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who don't want to drive a 30-foot motorhome through Essex County's winding country roads. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV at popular spots like Harold Parker State Forest in North Andover, Salisbury Beach State Reservation, or even right in your Boxford driveway for a backyard staycation. They'll level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before leaving. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your destination address to confirm the fee, which is usually based on distance.
mass.gov/locations/harold-parker-state-forestHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive on a Boxford RV trip?
Mileage is flexible on RVezy: hosts set their own policies, and you'll see plenty of listings offering generous daily mileage or even RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for longer trips. From Boxford, you're well positioned for a New England RV road trip: Acadia National Park in Maine is about 240 miles north, the White Mountains of New Hampshire sit roughly 130 miles northwest, Cape Cod is about 90 miles south, and Lake Winnipesaukee is about 100 miles away. Every listing shows the included miles and per-mile overage rate up front. Pro tip: estimate your route on Google Maps before booking so you can pick a listing that matches how far you plan to roam.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Boxford%2C%20MassachusettsWhere can I camp with my RV near Boxford, MA?
You have great campgrounds within a short drive of Boxford. Harold Parker State Forest in North Andover (about 10 miles away) offers wooded sites, restrooms, and a dump station. Salisbury Beach State Reservation (about 20 miles north) offers oceanfront sites with electric and water hookups. Winter Island Park in Salem (about 15 miles south) provides full-hookup sites with harbor views. Cape Ann Camp Site in Gloucester is another solid pick. Book Massachusetts state parks through ReserveAmerica up to six months in advance, especially for summer weekends, since coastal sites near Boxford sell out fast.
mass.gov/info-details/reserve-a-campsite-yurt-or-cabin-at-a-massachusetts-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Boxford?
Late spring through mid-fall is prime time for RV camping Boxford, with the sweet spot running from mid-May through mid-October. Summer (June through August) brings warm days typically in the 75 to 85 F range, perfect for Crane Beach and Plum Island. September and early October are arguably even better: crisp 60 to 70 F days, fewer bugs, and spectacular foliage along the Essex Coastal Scenic Byway. Most Massachusetts state park campgrounds open in mid-May and close in mid-October, so plan around those dates. Winter rentals are available from select hosts with four-season RVs if you want a quiet snowy getaway near Ski Bradford.
weather.gov/box/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving in Boxford?
You'll be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup: how to operate the generator, dump tanks, hook up shore power, extend awnings, and use the propane system. Boxford's roads are mostly low-traffic country routes, and Interstate 95 and Route 495 are nearby for easy access to the rest of New England. If you're nervous about size, start with a Class B campervan or smaller travel trailer, or simply book delivery so you skip the highway drive entirely. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop through a quiet area like Boxford Common before heading to the campground.
mass.gov/info-details/driving-in-massachusettsWhat if something goes wrong on the road during my RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every Boxford RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're stuck on Route 1 in Topsfield, parked at Salisbury Beach, or driving up I-93 toward New Hampshire. Roadside covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. For RV-specific questions (how to relight the water heater, why the slide-out is stuck), your host is your first call and most respond within minutes. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip if you need a hand.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Boxford RV rental to other states or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Boxford. New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are all within easy reach: Portland, ME is about 90 miles north, Burlington, VT is about 230 miles, and Mystic, CT is about 130 miles south. Cross-border travel to Canada (Quebec and the Maritimes are popular routes) may be allowed depending on the host and protection coverage, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations. Pro tip: a classic loop is Boxford to Acadia National Park to the White Mountains, doable in 5 to 7 days.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my Boxford RV trip?
Budgeting is straightforward once you know the numbers. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and large Class A rigs land between 6 and 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, usually 10 to 14 MPG combined. Massachusetts gas prices typically sit slightly above the national average, with stations along I-95 in Boxford, Georgetown, and Newburyport offering competitive prices. For a typical 3-day, 300-mile loop through the North Shore in a Class C, expect roughly $120 to $160 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in New Hampshire (no sales tax on gas, lower pump prices) when you cross over for a White Mountains side trip.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Boxford?
Book early, your future self will thank you. Massachusetts state park campgrounds like Harold Parker State Forest and Salisbury Beach State Reservation open reservations six months ahead through ReserveAmerica, and prime summer weekends sell out within hours of release at 9:00 AM Eastern. For July, August, and Columbus Day weekend (peak foliage), aim to book in January or February. Private parks like Winter Island in Salem are slightly more flexible but still fill up by April for summer. Mid-week sites are often available last-minute. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your target date and log in to ReserveAmerica a few minutes early.
reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Boxford, especially in a larger RV?
Boxford's roads are RV-friendly with a few things to keep in mind. Interstate 95 and Route 495 are wide, well-maintained highways suitable for any size rig. Within Boxford itself, you'll find scenic country roads with tree canopies, so watch for low branches in a tall Class A or Class C. Avoid the narrow historic streets of downtown Salem and Newburyport in anything larger than a campervan, and steer clear of the Sumner and Callahan Tunnels in Boston (height-restricted). Winter brings snow from December through March, so most leisure rentals operate May through October. Pro tip: use the RV Life or AllStays app to route around low bridges and weight-restricted roads.
mass511.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Boxford?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. At Harold Parker State Forest you'll find restrooms, hot showers, potable water spigots, and a dump station, though hookups at individual sites are limited. Salisbury Beach State Reservation offers electric (20/30/50 amp) and water hookups at most sites plus a dump station. Winter Island Park in Salem has full hookups (electric, water, sewer) at all 55 RV sites. For filling fresh water and dumping tanks between stops, the Boxford Mobil and several Route 1 truck stops have potable water, and the Topsfield Fairgrounds dump station is open seasonally. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving any campground, since dump-only stops are more common than fill stations.
mass.gov/locations/salisbury-beach-state-reservationWhat's inside a typical Boxford RV rental?
More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental Boxford listing on RVezy comes with comfortable sleeping for 4 to 8 people, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (roof AC and furnace), and dining areas that often convert to extra beds. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and an onboard generator for off-grid power. Travel trailers tow behind your vehicle and offer similar layouts. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a mobile hotspot, others recommend tethering from your phone. Each listing shows exactly what's included, sleeping capacity, and seatbelt count. Pro tip: filter by 'Sleeps 6+' for a family RV trip Boxford the whole crew will enjoy.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
Hosts offer plenty of add-ons to customize your trip. Popular extras include camp chairs and tables ($10 to $25/trip), bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, bikes, kayaks, generators for boondocking, and pet packages. Many Boxford-area hosts also offer propane top-offs and tank-dumping services so you can return the RV without the chores. Pickup is typically at the host's location in Boxford or a nearby town like Topsfield, Georgetown, or North Andover, with delivery available to campgrounds, marinas, or your home. Mileage policies vary by listing, with some offering unlimited miles and others 100 to 200 miles per day. Check the listing's add-ons section before booking to keep your total cost clear.
mass.gov/orgs/massachusetts-office-of-travel-tourismHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book a Boxford RV rental, RVezy charges your credit or debit card through the platform, so you never hand cash to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (the amount depends on the RV) and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV was returned clean, undamaged, and on time. Cleaning fees and any agreed extras (extra mileage, late return, propane refill) are settled through the platform too. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short video of the interior and exterior at both pickup and dropoff, that way your deposit comes back quickly and any questions are easy to resolve.
