Campgrounds and RV parks near Ipswich, MA

Ipswich sits on Massachusetts' North Shore roughly 30 miles north of Boston, bordered by salt marshes, barrier beaches, and the Ipswich River. The town itself has no large public campground, so RV travelers typically base at private parks and state-run coastal reservations within a short drive north or south along Route 1 and I-95. The closest RV-friendly option is Cape Ann Camp Site in Gloucester, an 80-acre family-owned campground set in mature woodland overlooking the Annisquam River, about a mile from Wingaersheek Beach, with more than 200 sites. To the north in Salisbury, campers cluster near the coast: Salisbury Beach State Reservation offers 484 campsites and one group site with water and 20/30/50 amp electric hookups, while Beach Rose RV Park is a fifty-site park with 20/30/50 amp electric, water, sewer, cable TV and WiFi on level cement pads. Inland Salisbury adds two more options: Rusnik Campground on Route 1 and Black Bear Campground, both with full hookups and easy access to Hampton and Salisbury beaches. Together these give travelers coastal, wooded, and highway-adjacent choices within about 30 minutes of Ipswich.

State sites at Salisbury Beach are reserved through the Massachusetts DCR's ReserveAmerica portal, with a booking window of up to four months before the arrival date. Walk-in registrations are not permitted, and same-day reservations can be made up until 2 pm on the date of arrival. Book as soon as the window opens for summer weekends, holidays, and the July and August peak. Quiet hours run 10 pm to 7 am, and alcohol is prohibited on the reservation. Private parks including Cape Ann Camp Site, Beach Rose RV Park, Rusnik Campground, and Black Bear Campground book directly through their own websites or by phone; two-night minimums on summer weekends are common. Reserve four to eight weeks ahead for shoulder season and earlier for July and August.
