Camping near Rowley, Massachusetts
Rowley sits on the Massachusetts North Shore in Essex County, roughly 30 miles north of Boston and a short drive south of Newburyport and the New Hampshire line. The town borders the Great Marsh and Plum Island Sound, so RV travelers use it as a base for barrier-beach camping, salt-marsh paddling, and day trips to Cape Ann.
There is no large campground inside Rowley itself, but several established RV parks and a state reservation sit within a short drive. Salisbury Beach State Reservation is a 521-acre state-owned public recreation area at 1 Beach Road in Salisbury that receives over one million visitors per year, making it the anchor campground for this stretch of coast. Beach Rose RV Park and Rusnik Campground sit just off Route 1 in Salisbury, Black Bear Campground is nearby along the same corridor, and Cape Ann Camp Site is about 30 minutes south in Gloucester.
Together these properties cover the range most RV travelers need: full-hookup pads close to the beach, wooded family sites with pools, and rustic tent-friendly grounds near the ocean.
Things to do near Rowley
The coast is the main draw. Salisbury Beach State Reservation offers a long sandy Atlantic beach between the Merrimack River and the New Hampshire border, with boardwalks providing access to the ocean and two boat ramps on the river for swimming, boating, and fishing.
Just south of Rowley, Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island is one of the top birding destinations in Massachusetts, drawing migratory shorebirds, waterfowl, and songbirds through the marshes and dunes. Newburyport's waterfront has walkable shops and restaurants, and downtown is easy to reach from any of the Salisbury-area campgrounds.
Cape Ann Camp Site puts families within reach of Gloucester Harbor and Rockport, with Salem and Boston both accessible by car or commuter rail.

The camping season on the North Shore is short and beach-driven. The regular camping season at Salisbury Beach State Reservation runs from early May to mid-October, with limited off-season camping from mid-October to late November on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights only. Private parks follow similar windows: Beach Rose RV Park runs April 1 through mid-November, weather permitting, while Rusnik Campground opens May 15 through Columbus Day and now operates as a seasonal and monthly park rather than accepting short overnight stays.
July and August are the peak weeks. Weekends at the state reservation and the private parks book out months ahead, and the state reservation enforces a 14-day maximum stay. Late summer brings a pest to plan around: greenhead flies peak from the last two weeks of July into early August across the salt marshes, with bites concentrated near dawn and dusk.
Spring and September deliver quieter beaches, cooler nights, and better wildlife viewing at Parker River. Winter closes most sites entirely.

How to book a site
Salisbury Beach State Reservation books through the Massachusetts DCR reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations are required and no walk-in camping is allowed; sites can be reserved up to four months ahead of arrival, and same-day reservations are accepted online until 2 pm on the arrival date. The campground offers 484 campsites with water and electric hookups, plus comfort stations with flush toilets and showers.
The private parks book direct. Beach Rose RV Park, Black Bear Campground, and Cape Ann Camp Site handle reservations by phone or through their own websites, with peak summer weekends filling well in advance. Rusnik Campground takes seasonal and monthly bookings only, so travelers looking for a weekend stay should target one of the other parks.
Pets are permitted at most Massachusetts state campgrounds with a limit of four pets per site, a current rabies certificate is required at check-in, and pets must be leashed at all times.
What to expect on the ground
Sites vary widely in character. Salisbury Beach Reservation is located on a barrier beach and may close during severe weather, and its sites sit in open sand within a short walk of the surf, with little shade and concrete or paved pads. Beach Rose RV Park is the most polished RV option nearby: a well-maintained park with level cement pads, picnic tables, and fire rings at every site, full 50/30/20-amp hookups with water, sewer, and Wi-Fi, plus a heated pool, game room, laundry, and a fenced dog park.
Rusnik and Cape Ann are wooded and more rustic, with tent and RV sites mixed under tree cover. Rusnik features roughly 175 wooded, full or partial hookup sites that are big-rig friendly, with a pool, playground, and dump station.
Alcohol is prohibited in Massachusetts state parks, and beach rules are strict on pets: no dogs are allowed on Salisbury Beach from April 1 through September 15, except for service animals.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rowley,MassachusettsWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Rowley, Massachusetts?

Massachusetts does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, even for Class A rigs up to 45 feet. To book through RVezy you must be at least 25, and identity verification happens right inside the platform when you book, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from overseas? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and roadside help included for my Rowley trip?
Every RVezy booking in Rowley automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 1 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers eligible damages to the vehicle during your rental, and you choose the coverage level at checkout based on how much extra cushion you want. Coverage is provided through RVezy's protection program rather than traditional auto insurance, and the roadside team is one phone call away whether you have a flat on I-95 or a hookup question at Salisbury Beach. Pro tip: higher-tier coverage lowers your responsibility amount significantly and is popular with first-time renters.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's the cancellation policy if my Rowley RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy on every reservation (hosts do not control this), and refund amounts depend on how far out you cancel before pickup. The full cancellation terms are shown in your RVezy account before you confirm payment, so you know exactly where you stand. Severe weather and natural disaster situations can also affect refunds, which matters in coastal Massachusetts where Nor'easters can pop up in spring and fall. Pro tip: book early to secure the best RVs for July and October foliage weekends, and review the cancellation window at checkout so you can adjust confidently if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Rowley?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental Rowley dog parents love. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see every listing that welcomes four-legged co-pilots. Once you have your rig, your pup will enjoy Bradley Palmer State Park's leash-friendly trails just minutes from Rowley, the off-season dog hours at Crane Beach in Ipswich, and the marsh boardwalks at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island (note that pets are restricted on most refuge trails, so check current rules). Pro tip: Massachusetts DCR campgrounds allow leashed pets at most sites with a valid rabies certificate at check-in.

Delivery fees usually run $2 to $5 per mile from the host's location, and some hosts offer free delivery to popular spots like Salisbury Beach State Reservation. Rusnik Campground in Salisbury is a family-run favorite with full hookups and a pool. For something quieter, Cape Ann Camp Site near Gloucester is a wooded option about 20 miles south. Pro tip: Salisbury Beach books up months ahead for July and August, so reserve early on ReserveAmerica.
mass.gov/locations/salisbury-beach-state-reservationWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Rowley?
Late May through mid-October is prime season for RV camping Rowley travelers come for, with the sweet spots being June (highs in the mid-70s, low humidity, smaller crowds), September (warm days, cool nights, fewer mosquitoes), and the first two weeks of October for North Shore fall foliage. July and August bring beach weather with highs in the low 80s and ocean swims at Crane Beach and Plum Island, but campgrounds fill up fast. Most Massachusetts DCR coastal campgrounds operate from spring through late fall, with reduced services later in the season. Pro tip: book a mid-September trip and you will catch warm weather, open clam shacks, and easier campground availability.

Pro tip: book delivery for your first trip so you skip the drive entirely, the host levels and sets up the RV at your campground and walks you through everything on site.

You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat tire on I-95, lose power at the campground, or run out of fuel near Salisbury, one phone call gets help dispatched. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip for anything bigger. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before you pull out of the driveway, it takes 30 seconds and gives total peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Rowley RV rental into Canada or other states?
Cross-border travel from Rowley is popular and often allowed, you just need to ask your host first since policies vary by listing. Many Massachusetts hosts welcome trips into New Hampshire (the White Mountains and Lake Winnipesaukee are huge favorites), Maine (Acadia, Bar Harbor, Portland), Vermont, and even cross-border runs into Quebec or the Canadian Maritimes with advance notice for insurance paperwork. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: message the host before booking with your planned route, this gets you confirmation in writing and lets the host prepare any cross-border documents you will need at the Canadian border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and your fuel costs stay manageable. Travel trailers do not burn extra fuel themselves but reduce your tow vehicle's MPG to around 10 to 14. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs land around 6 to 10 MPG. Massachusetts gas prices typically run a bit higher than the national average, so check current prices and fill up off Route 1 in Rowley or Newburyport before heading north into pricier coastal Maine. For a one-week trip with 500 miles in a Class C, budget roughly $200 to $300 in fuel. Pro tip: most North Shore campgrounds are within 30 miles, so park-and-explore-by-car keeps your fuel costs low.

reserveamerica.com/explore/salisbury-beach-state-reservation/MA/443/overviewWhat are local driving conditions like around Rowley?

I-95 runs right past Rowley for fast highway access to Boston (about 35 miles south) and New Hampshire (about 15 miles north). Avoid the narrow streets of downtown Newburyport with anything over 24 feet, watch for low bridges on Route 133 toward Essex, and skip the Boston city center entirely. Winter trips need attention to coastal Nor'easters and icy back roads from December to March. Pro tip: use a truck-and-RV GPS app like RV Trip Wizard to auto-avoid low clearances and weight-restricted bridges in the region.

Pro tip: top off freshwater before you leave your campground each morning, public fill stations get scarce north of Newburyport heading toward Maine.
mass.gov/locations/salisbury-beach-state-reservationWhat's typically included inside a motorhome rental Rowley hosts offer?
