Campgrounds and RV parks near Hubbard Lake, MI

Hubbard Lake itself anchors most trips: boating, paddling, swimming from sandy public access points, and fishing for walleye, bass, northern pike, yellow perch, and trout. Drive east about 25 minutes to Lake Huron for rock hunting along the shoreline, including Petoskey stones, and to reach the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Alpena, where visitors can dive into interactive exhibits or set sail on a glass-bottom boat to explore shipwrecks. The 2-mile paved Heritage Trail runs north and south through Harrisville State Park and connects to Harrisville via Third Street. Inland, the Huron National Forest offers hiking, ORV trails, and dispersed camping. Families staying at Campers Cove RV and Campground can use the on-site pool, mini golf, and paddle rentals along the Thunder Bay River.

Most campgrounds in the Hubbard Lake area run a mid-spring through mid-fall season. Harrisville State Park's camping facilities are open from April 15 to November 1, and the park's mini cabins and rustic cabins are available year-round. The Alpena County camping season, which covers Beaver Lake Park and the County Fairgrounds, runs from May 15 until October 15 annually. Private operators such as Campers Cove RV and Campground and Paradise Lodge Resort typically run from spring through mid-fall; confirm exact dates directly with each operator. Arriving before mid-April or after early November generally means private and county sites are closed and only limited state-park cabin options remain. Summer is peak. July and August fill quickly at lakeside and state-park sites, especially for holiday weekends, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Late September into early October brings strong fall color across the hardwood ridges around Beaver Lake and Hubbard Lake, cooler nights, and lighter bookings. Winter is cold and snowy across the region, with ice fishing on Hubbard Lake but most road-accessible RV sites closed.

Expect a quiet, lake-and-forest setting rather than a resort scene. Beaver Lake Park includes 48 modern campsites and five rustic sites with 30 amp and 50 amp electricity, modern restrooms, showers, a dumping station, picnic area, playgrounds, and a swim area. Campers Cove RV and Campground accommodates larger rigs with 20, 30, and 50 amp service, full hookups, laundry, and an on-site store. Harrisville State Park features 195 campsites, one modern bathhouse, and two mini-cabins with electricity, a fire ring, and an outdoor grill, set within a short walk of Lake Huron. Cell coverage is generally adequate near Alpena and Harrisville but can thin out on back roads west of Hubbard Lake. Black flies and mosquitoes are common in late spring and early summer, and overnight temperatures stay cool even in mid-summer.
