RV camping near Affton, Missouri
Affton is an unincorporated community in south St. Louis County, positioned along Gravois Road between the city of St. Louis and the Meramec River corridor. It works well as an RV base because it puts renters within easy reach of downtown attractions, the Gateway Arch, and the Missouri and Illinois park systems on either side of the Mississippi River.
Dedicated RV parks inside Affton itself are limited, so most renters stage at properties in the surrounding metro. Just off Highway 30 in Fenton, Covered Bridge RV Park and Storage operates as a compact facility with concrete pads and full hookups for RVs up to 50 feet, close enough to St. Louis for strong cell coverage and convenient access to restaurants and stores while maintaining a residential atmosphere. Belleville Mobile Home and RV Estates, Cahokia RV Parque, and DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park sit across the river on the Illinois side, all within a short drive of the Arch grounds.
Safari RV Park rounds out the shortlist for renters who want a straightforward hookup site within the metro footprint.
Things to do around Affton
Grant's Trail runs directly through Affton and connects to Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site and Grant's Farm, both easy stops for families with kids. Forest Park, the Saint Louis Zoo, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and the Gateway Arch are all a short drive north, and none require long hikes from parking.
For outdoor days, Castlewood State Park and the Meramec River sit southwest of town with paddling, fishing, and shaded trails. Illinois-side campers can reach Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site and the riverfront trails around the Arch in under thirty minutes.
Renters who want a night off the road can walk to entertainment at the Casino Queen complex directly from DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the St. Louis area. April through early June brings mild days, green river bluffs, and reliable access to state parks, though thunderstorms and river flooding are common risks. A creek runs alongside Covered Bridge that can rise significantly during heavy rainfall events, and staff actively monitor weather conditions and offer site relocations when flooding threatens.
Summer is the busiest season. Humidity is high, heat indices routinely push into the upper 90s Fahrenheit, and weekend sites at metro-area parks book out well in advance around Independence Day and Cardinals home stands. Shaded pads and reliable 50-amp service for air conditioning are worth prioritizing.
Fall delivers the most comfortable camping weather, with cool nights and steady foliage through late October. Winter operation is possible because several nearby parks, including Covered Bridge, keep full accommodations available year round, but expect freezing nights, occasional ice storms, and limited amenities at seasonal properties.

Booking and reservations near Affton
Private RV parks around Affton typically take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, and most also list availability on aggregators like Campspot, Hipcamp, and The Dyrt. At Covered Bridge RV Park and Storage, weekend check-ins require advance coordination since the facility closes on weekends. Call ahead if arrival falls outside standard business hours.
Missouri State Parks campgrounds, including Babler and Robertsville within driving range, book through the state's icampmo.com system, with a reservation window that opens up to twelve months prior to the planned arrival date. Illinois state sites book through the Illinois DNR reservation system, and federal recreation areas along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers list on Recreation.gov. Peak summer weekends and holidays fill first, so lock in dates early and confirm rig-length limits before booking.
What to expect on the ground
Most RV parks near Affton are compact, hookup-focused properties rather than destination resorts. Expect paved streets and level concrete pads with electric, water, and sewer connections, WiFi that varies in strength, a laundry facility, and limited green space, with campfires typically permitted. Sites often mix nightly travelers with seasonal and full-time residents.
Traffic on I-44, I-55, I-64, and I-270 gets heavy at rush hour, so plan arrivals mid-morning or mid-afternoon and avoid downtown routes with tall rigs during Cardinals or Blues home games. Grocery, fuel, and RV supply stops are plentiful across the metro.
Cell coverage is strong throughout the area, and pull-through availability is common at the Illinois-side parks near the casino corridor.

Tip: ask the host for a checkout checklist at pickup, it makes returning your RV rental in Affton, MO smooth and stress-free.
