Campgrounds and RV parks near Bel-Ridge, MO

The Gateway Arch, the St. Louis Zoo, the Saint Louis Science Center, and the Missouri Botanical Garden are all within a half-hour drive and work well as day trips from any of the metro-area campgrounds. Forest Park, larger than New York's Central Park, houses several of these attractions and offers free admission to the zoo, art museum, and history museum. Sundermeier RV Park sits adjacent to Katy Trail State Park, a rail-trail that runs across most of the state and is popular with cyclists and walkers. Historic Main Street in St. Charles, Missouri's first state capital, offers shops, restaurants, and seasonal festivals a short drive from the park. Across the river, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site preserves the largest pre-Columbian city north of Mexico and is an easy stop for families based at the Illinois-side campgrounds.

St. Louis has a true four-season climate, with hot, humid summers and cold winters. Spring, from March through May, is the wettest stretch and the most active severe-weather period. The metro sits within the broader severe-storm corridor of the central U.S., so RV travelers in April and May should monitor watches and warnings and know each park's shelter plan. Summer brings peak demand at metro campgrounds, along with afternoon thunderstorms and occasional 100-degree days. Book well ahead for weekends around Independence Day and for any dates tied to a Cardinals homestand or a large festival. River flooding on the Mississippi and Missouri is possible in spring and early summer and can affect low-lying sites and access roads. Fall is the most stable season for camping, with mild days, cooler nights, and lower rainfall than spring. Winter operations vary by park. Some private parks in the area stay open year-round with limited services, while amenities like pools and cabins typically close from late fall through early spring.

Expect urban and suburban campgrounds rather than woodland settings. Sundermeier RV Park offers 106 concrete pads, 39 pull-throughs, wide paved streets, air-conditioned restrooms and laundry, free Wi-Fi, cable, and an on-site general store. Sites are level and close together, and the park sits near an interstate and a rail line, so some traffic and train noise is normal. The Illinois-side parks near Casino Queen and Cahokia are geared to travelers using the casino, the MetroLink light rail into downtown, or the historic sites. Amenities generally include full hookups, 30/50-amp service, and paved or gravel pads. Families should plan for shade to be limited at newer lots, keep pets leashed per park rules, and expect quiet hours to be enforced. Cell coverage across all major providers is generally strong throughout the metro.
