RV camping near Castle Point, Missouri
Castle Point is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in St. Louis County, Missouri, sitting in the northern St. Louis metro area about a dozen miles from downtown. The community itself has no campgrounds within its small footprint, so RV travelers stay at parks in the surrounding metro area on both the Missouri and Illinois sides of the Mississippi River, then drive in for city attractions.
The closest full-service option is the St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey, positioned just across the river in Illinois with quick I-270 access. Urban RV parks along the Mississippi include DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park in East St. Louis, Safari RV Park, and Cahokia RV Parque, all placing campers within a short drive of the Gateway Arch and Busch Stadium.
For a more natural setting, Horseshoe Lake State Park sits on a large oxbow lake in Madison County, Illinois, though campers should confirm current access directly with the park before planning a stay. Together these options cover both quick overnight stops and multi-night stays focused on the St. Louis area.
Things to do near Castle Point
Most trips based in the Castle Point area orbit around downtown St. Louis. The Gateway Arch, the free-admission Saint Louis Zoo in Forest Park, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and the City Museum are the main family draws, and Busch Stadium hosts Cardinals games from spring through fall. Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site across the river in Illinois, is an easy day trip.
Outdoor time centers on the Illinois side. Horseshoe Lake State Park covers roughly 2,960 acres of lake and bottomland with fishing, boating, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing, plus a 50-horsepower limit for watercraft and two public boat ramps. Waterfowl hunting from designated public blinds runs during the winter season. Closer to Castle Point, St. Louis County parks offer trails, playgrounds, and picnic shelters.

The St. Louis region has a humid continental climate with cold winters and hot, muggy summers. Spring is the rainiest season due to clashing air masses and afternoon thunderstorms that continue through summer, though gradually less often. Autumn is generally drier and more stable, and is often considered the best window for RV travel in the area. St. Louis also sits at the edge of Tornado Alley, with tornadoes most likely in spring and occasionally in fall.
Seasonal closures matter for trip planning. Horseshoe Lake State Park's campground normally runs May 1 to September 30, but the campground, its access road, and the hiking trail have been closed for a causeway installation project, so campers should check the Illinois DNR site before traveling. Urban RV parks on both sides of the river tend to run year-round or nearly so, but always confirm winter operations directly with the park.
Summer weekends line up with Cardinals home stands, concerts, and festivals, so metro-area RV parks fill quickly. Booking several weeks ahead is standard for June through August.

We had a great time renting this camper! Ray was awesome to work with. He went over everything with us when we picked it up and was always quick to respond if we had any questions. The camper was really clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was great to get away with the family annd enjoy some time together without having to worry about anything. We had an awesome weekend, made some great memories, and will definitely be renting from Ray again! Do yourself a favor and take your family camping for a few days too. Unplug, enjoy the time together, and make some memories. You won’t regret it!

How to book RV sites near Castle Point
Private parks in the area take reservations online or by phone. DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park uses an online reservation system that allows selection of a specific site. The St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey books through the KOA website and app. Safari RV Park and Cahokia RV Parque handle reservations directly by phone or through their own websites.
Horseshoe Lake State Park works differently. Individual campsites are first-come, first-served with a self-service pay system at the site office, and the Illinois DNR states that camping reservations are not accepted. Stays are capped at 7 days within any 30-day period. Campers should verify current status with the park before arrival, as the campground has been affected by a causeway project.
What to expect on the ground
The urban RV parks near Castle Point are functional rather than scenic. DraftKings at Casino Queen sits along the Mississippi with pull-through, full-hookup sites, 30/50-amp service, bathhouses, and shuttle access to the casino and MetroLink light rail. Train noise is common, and the surrounding neighborhood is industrial, but the location puts campers minutes from the Arch.
Horseshoe Lake State Park, when open, is primitive by comparison. The campground has 26 tent or trailer sites with a sanitary dump station, water hydrants, and pit toilets, but no showers and no hookups.
Expect Central Time, humid summers, and a mix of interstate driving and river bridges when moving between parks. Big rigs are accepted at the main private parks; state park sites suit smaller trailers and self-contained rigs better.
