Campgrounds and RV parks near Gordonville, MO

The Mississippi River corridor drives most trip planning here. At Trail of Tears State Park, families can combine history and outdoor time: the park offers two campgrounds, sites for tent camping or campers, restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station, and the visitor center covers the forced Cherokee march. Mississippi River - Trail of Tears State Park offers river views directly from the campground loop, though sites sit near an active railroad and the river, so expect occasional train and barge noise. Trail Of Tears State Forest, across the river in Illinois, adds backcountry hiking. In Cape Girardeau itself, RV travelers can walk the floodwall murals, visit the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge overlook, and restock at full-service grocery stores before heading back to camp.

Spring brings the region's wettest stretch and the highest severe-weather risk, with thunderstorms and occasional flooding along the Mississippi. Roads and low-lying campground loops can close temporarily during high-water events, so travelers should check park alerts before arrival. Summer is the peak RV season. Due to the recreational activities, summer is a busy time at this park, though the weather may be humid and reach temperatures above 90 degrees. Reservable sites at Trail of Tears State Park fill early for weekends and holidays, making hookup sites at private parks like Cape Camping and RV Park and Hinton RV Park useful backups when state-park sites sell out. Fall delivers the most comfortable camping weather, with cooler nights, drier air, and hardwood color along the river bluffs. Winter camping is possible but limited. Lake Boutin Campground is open and reservable May 1 through October 31 and offers basic sites, while the Mississippi River Campground is open year round with electric-only or full-hookup sites; water and showers are available at the Mississippi River Campground April 1 through October 31, and during the off season a frost-free potable water spigot is accessible at the dump station. Private RV parks in the Cape Girardeau area generally remain open year-round with utilities on.

Sites at Trail of Tears State Park sit in mixed hardwood forest along the river. The Mississippi River Campground has campsites near the banks of the Mississippi River, seven with full hookups and 11 with electric only; sites are fairly level and each has a picnic table and a fire ring with grill. Campers carrying in firewood should comply with current firewood advisories. Expect ambient noise near the river loop: the railroad near the Mississippi River Campground is active, and barge traffic runs day and night. Cell coverage is uneven under the bluffs. Up to two leashed or confined pets are welcome in each campsite, although they are not allowed in public buildings or on public beaches and may never be left unattended. Private RV parks near Cape Girardeau tend to run tighter, paved-pad layouts with full hookups and less tree cover.
