Campgrounds near Lakeshire
Lakeshire is a small residential city in south St. Louis County, Missouri, tucked between Grantwood Village and Affton just off Interstate 55. Its position inside the St. Louis metro means RV travelers have quick access to urban attractions like the Gateway Arch, Forest Park, and the St. Louis Zoo, plus a broad network of Missouri and Illinois state parks within an hour's drive.
RV options close to Lakeshire skew toward practical, hookup-focused parks rather than wilderness campgrounds. The city sits in the far east of Missouri where the Mississippi marks the border with Illinois, and the Mississippi and Missouri rivers meet nearby. Covered Bridge RV Park and Storage sits on the Missouri side and functions as a no-frills base for city visits, while Belleville Mobile Home and RV Estates, Cahokia RV Parque, and DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park are just across the Mississippi in Illinois, all within roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive of downtown St. Louis.
For a slightly longer haul, Safari RV Park adds another private option in the metro. Travelers who want state-park scenery typically drive south to the Meramec River corridor or west toward the Route 66 corridor near Eureka.
Things to do near Lakeshire
Downtown St. Louis is the main draw. Gateway Arch National Park, the free St. Louis Zoo in Forest Park, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and the City Museum all sit within a short drive of Lakeshire and are family friendly. Busch Stadium and Enterprise Center handle baseball and hockey.
Outdoor time is easy to add. The Meramec River runs south of the city with float trips, Onondaga Cave State Park is a drivable day trip, and Mark Twain National Forest lies to the southwest for hiking. North and east of the metro, Cuivre River State Park and Horseshoe Lake in Illinois add lake swimming and paddling.
Across the river in Illinois, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site preserves the largest pre-Columbian earthworks north of Mexico and pairs well with a stay at one of the Illinois-side RV parks.

The climate of St. Louis is continental, with cold winters and hot summers, and quite frequent thunderstorms, so seasons are pronounced. Spring, roughly April through early June, brings comfortable RV weather along with the region's wettest stretch: May is the month with the most rainfall, when rain falls for about 12 days and typically aggregates up to 4.72 inches of precipitation, and severe thunderstorm and tornado risk peaks from April through June.
Summer is hot and humid. July averages a high near 89 degrees Fahrenheit and a low near 71, and 100-degree stretches occur most years. Sites at private RV parks fill on weekends around Cardinals home stands, Six Flags trips, and Fourth of July, so book several weeks out for holiday windows.
Fall is the second sweet spot: September and October bring lower humidity, mild days, and steady color along the river bluffs. Winter is cold with occasional snow and ice. Throughout the year there are about 14.5 snowfall days and roughly 17.7 inches of snow accumulates. Some seasonal state park loops close or run limited services from December through February, while private parks near the city generally remain open year-round for self-contained rigs.

We had a great time renting this camper! Ray was awesome to work with. He went over everything with us when we picked it up and was always quick to respond if we had any questions. The camper was really clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was great to get away with the family annd enjoy some time together without having to worry about anything.
