Perry camping overview
Perry sits in Ralls County in northeast Missouri, a short drive from Mark Twain Lake, the 18,600-acre reservoir managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and named for the author who grew up in nearby Hannibal. The area mixes rolling farmland, oak-hickory woods, and the lake's many coves, giving RV travelers a base for fishing, boating, and exploring the Mark Twain heritage corridor.
Campgrounds within easy reach include Mark Twain Lake Jellystone Park, a family resort with full-hookup sites and a water park, plus several smaller private operations such as HillBillys Campground and General Store, Back Forty Bluegrass Park and Campground, Woodyz Acres RV Park and Campground, and Bayview Campers Park. Together they cover a range of styles, from resort camping with cabins and pools to quieter rural parks geared to longer stays. Hannibal, with its riverfront and Mark Twain attractions, lies roughly half an hour northeast and is the usual day-trip anchor for visitors basing themselves near Perry.
Things to do near Perry
Mark Twain Lake is the centerpiece of the region. The Corps of Engineers manages multiple recreation areas with boat ramps, swim beaches, and hiking trails, and the lake is well known for crappie and bass fishing. The Clarence Cannon Dam visitor center has a power-plant display, and the David C. Berti Shooting Range sits below the dam. Mark Twain State Park, on the lake's south side, adds more trails and an overlook of Buzzards Roost.
About half an hour northeast, Hannibal offers the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum, riverboat cruises on the Mississippi, and the Mark Twain Cave complex. Back Forty Bluegrass Park and Campground hosts an annual bluegrass festival in late spring that draws acoustic-music fans from across the region.

Private parks set their own seasons. Mark Twain Lake Jellystone Park operates from spring into fall with peak programming, including its Water Zone, water slides, and themed weekends, concentrated between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Woodyz Acres and the smaller private parks largely run a similar warm-weather schedule, with some sites available for extended stays.
Summer weekends, the Fourth of July, and the Back Forty Bluegrass Festival weekend in late May are the busiest dates, and lakeside Corps sites typically book out well in advance. Shoulder seasons in April, May, September, and October bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and reliable fishing.
Booking campgrounds near Perry
Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Mark Twain Lake, including Ray Behrens, Indian Creek, and Frank Russell, are reserved through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777. The standard reservation window opens six months ahead of the arrival date, and summer holiday weekends fill quickly, so booking early is recommended. Group camps at John C. Briscoe and Indian Creek are also handled through Recreation.gov.
Private parks book directly. Mark Twain Lake Jellystone Park takes reservations through its own website and accepts stays via ReserveAmerica. HillBillys Campground and General Store, Back Forty Bluegrass Park and Campground, Woodyz Acres RV Park and Campground, and Bayview Campers Park each handle reservations by phone or through their own sites, which is the most reliable way to confirm site type, hookups, and pet policies.
What to expect in Perry
