Campgrounds near Sycamore Hills, Missouri
Sycamore Hills is a small municipality in St. Louis County, Missouri, tucked inside the Interstate 170 and Interstate 70 corridor just west of the city of St. Louis and roughly ten miles from downtown. Because the town itself is residential and land-locked, RV travelers base themselves at parks in the surrounding metro area and use Sycamore Hills as a jumping-off point for the Gateway Arch, Forest Park, and the wider Mississippi River corridor.
The closest full-hookup option is Sundermeier RV Park in historic St. Charles, about twenty minutes northwest, with concrete pads, pull-thrus, and direct access to the Katy Trail. Across the river in Illinois, DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park sits on the East St. Louis riverfront within walking distance of the MetroLink light rail into downtown. Cahokia RV Parque, the St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey, and Belleville Mobile Home and RV Estates round out the nearby options on the Illinois side.
Most parks in the area are private and open year-round, so shoulder-season trips are realistic for renters with insulated rigs.
Things to do near Sycamore Hills
Gateway Arch National Park anchors the downtown riverfront and is a short drive or MetroLink ride from any of the metro campgrounds. Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in the country, holds the Saint Louis Zoo, the Saint Louis Art Museum, and the Missouri History Museum, all free to enter. Families also gravitate to the City Museum, Grant's Farm, and the Saint Louis Science Center.
Outdoor activities cluster along the two rivers. The Katy Trail State Park, a rail-trail that runs more than 240 miles across Missouri, is directly accessible from Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles. Day trips reach Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Illinois, and the wineries of the Missouri River bluffs west of St. Charles.

June - August
88° / 70°F 95 mmHot and humid; roughly 40 days above 90 degrees each year

- winter
December - February
43° / 25°F 58 mmCold, generally the driest season; snow possible but rarely prolonged
The St. Louis metro area has a true four-season humid continental climate driven by alternating Gulf and Canadian air masses. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with mild days, cooler nights, and lower humidity than the peak of summer.
Spring, from March through May, is the wettest and most unsettled part of the year, with frequent thunderstorms and a real tornado risk, since the region sits on the eastern edge of Tornado Alley. Renters should watch National Weather Service forecasts from the St. Louis office in St. Charles and confirm that their chosen park has a designated shelter or a nearby sturdy building. Summer is hot and muggy, with roughly forty days at or above ninety degrees Fahrenheit in a typical year, and afternoon storms are common.
Winters are cold but rarely extreme, averaging close to eighteen inches of snow per season. Metro RV parks generally stay open through winter, though tent camping and unheated rigs are impractical from December through February.

We had a great time renting this camper! Ray was awesome to work with. He went over everything with us when we picked it up and was always quick to respond if we had any questions. The camper was really clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was great to get away with the family annd enjoy some time together without having to worry about anything. We had an awesome weekend, made some great memories, and will definitely be renting from Ray again! Do yourself a favor and take your family camping for a few days too. Unplug, enjoy the time together, and make some memories. You won’t regret it!

How to book
All of the closest options are privately operated and take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, rather than through a state or federal reservation system. Sundermeier RV Park confirms bookings by credit card and lists rates and availability on its own site. DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park takes reservations through its Camplife portal and applies a three-day cancellation window before arrival.
For stays inside Missouri or Illinois state parks farther out from the city, reservations are handled through the state park agency portals. Missouri State Parks uses icampmo.com with a twelve-month booking window and a forty-eight-hour minimum lead time. Big events such as Cardinals homestands, Blues playoff games, and Fair Saint Louis over the July Fourth weekend push metro parks to full occupancy, so book those dates several weeks out.
What to expect
Campgrounds in the immediate Sycamore Hills area are urban RV parks rather than wooded destination campgrounds. Expect level concrete or gravel pads, full thirty and fifty amp hookups, paved interior roads, coin laundry, and reliable Wi-Fi. Sundermeier sits near the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport approach path and next to an active rail line, so aircraft and train noise are part of the experience. The Casino Queen park is fenced with on-site security and keycard access to the bathhouse.
Most sites are pull-thru and can handle larger Class A rigs, but shade is limited and pads tend to be close together. Leashed pets are welcome at all of the listed parks with standard cleanup rules. Cell coverage across all major carriers is strong throughout the metro.
