Campgrounds near Viburnum, Missouri
Viburnum sits in the Ozark hills of southeast Missouri, surrounded by the Mark Twain National Forest and a network of spring-fed rivers and creeks. The town itself is small, but it functions as a base for RV travellers heading to float trips on the Huzzah, Courtois, Meramec, Current, and Black rivers, or to off-road riding areas in the surrounding counties.
Most RV-friendly campgrounds near Viburnum are privately operated resorts within a short drive. Pine Valley at Dillard Mill sits in the Ozarks near Mark Twain National Forest and historic Dillard Mill, offering indoor lodging, glamping, and primitive camping. Huzzah Valley Resort spans about 2.5 miles of the Huzzah River with back-in and pull-through sites and 30 or 50-amp electrical service. Bass' River Resort, run by the Bass family on the Courtois since 1967, offers 60 cabins, 200 RV hook-ups, and 400 camping sites.
Farther south and west, Brushy Creek Lodge & Resort and Little Sinkin Creek RV Resort & UTV Campground cater to horseback riders and side-by-side crews with direct trail access into the national forest.
Things to do near Viburnum
Float trips are the anchor activity. Outfitters run canoes, kayaks, rafts, and tubes on the Huzzah, Courtois, and Meramec Rivers, and campgrounds farther south sit within reach of the Black, Current, and Jack's Fork rivers for spring-fed paddling.
Dillard Mill State Historic Site preserves one of the state's best-preserved gristmills, completed in 1908, with most of its original machinery intact. The setting on Huzzah Creek offers fishing, hiking, and picnicking, and the 1.4-mile Mill View Trail rewards hikers with a bluff view of the mill.
Off-road riders use forest roads and connector trails out of Brushy Creek Lodge & Resort and Little Sinkin Creek RV Resort & UTV Campground. Johnson's Shut-Ins and Elephant Rocks State Parks are within day-trip range for families, and the 48-mile Courtois section of the Ozark Trail draws hikers and mountain bikers.

The float and camping season runs roughly April through October, peaking in summer. Weekday trips generally need reservations one to two weeks ahead, while weekend trips fill four to six weeks out, and June, July, and August are the busiest months. The busiest window at Huzzah Valley Resort runs from the end of June through the end of July on weekends, with weekdays noticeably quieter.
Spring is the wettest stretch, and Ozark rivers respond quickly to rain. Riverside campgrounds along the Huzzah, Courtois, and Meramec are subject to flash flooding, and campers should watch river gauges and forecasts before booking sites on gravel bars or low-lying loops.
Bass' River Resort and Huzzah Valley Resort operate year-round, giving guests access through changing seasons, though lodging availability is limited in winter. Winter camping is possible at several private resorts, though state historic sites and some private amenities scale back after October. Dillard Mill grounds remain open in the cooler months, with reduced hours from November through April.
How to book campgrounds near Viburnum
Most nearby RV resorts are privately owned and book direct through their own websites or by phone rather than through Recreation.gov. Huzzah Valley Resort arranges most camping and floating weekends through telephone reservations, though walk-ins are accepted when space is available. Bass' River Resort and Pine Valley at Dillard Mill take reservations by phone and through their websites; Brushy Creek Lodge & Resort and Little Sinkin Creek RV Resort & UTV Campground publish direct booking through their own sites.
Cancellation windows vary. Huzzah Valley requires cancellations ten full days in advance to receive a refund minus a service charge; cancelling inside ten days forfeits the entire deposit. Weekend stays are typically a two-night minimum, and Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends often require three nights.
What to expect
Sites near Viburnum lean rustic rather than resort-polished. Expect gravel pads, wooded surroundings, and river or creek access rather than paved interior roads. Huzzah Valley Resort offers back-in and pull-through sites with 30 or 50-amp service, each with a picnic table and fire ring. Bass' River Resort spreads more than 400 sites across family and louder loops, with full-hookup, water and electric, and standard tent sites plus five bathhouses.
Cell service is inconsistent in the surrounding forest and hollows, so download maps before arrival. River-adjacent campgrounds separate quiet family loops from louder party loops; families should ask specifically for the quiet or family section when booking. On-site stores at the larger resorts stock most basics, including ice and firewood.

On RVezy, travel trailers typically rent for around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run $175 to $275, and Class B campervans land in the $125 to $200 range. Great news for first-time renters: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Viburnum. Missouri does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels you'd find on RVezy. You'll just need to be 25 or older, and RVezy will confirm your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto club before you fly in, usually under $20. Once that's done, you're cleared to roll into the Mark Twain National Forest and start your Viburnum RV trip with zero red tape.

Yes, and this is one of the best reasons to book through RVezy. Every RV rental in Viburnum, MO includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle, and during checkout you choose the coverage level that fits your trip. That means if you get a flat on Highway 32 heading toward Bixby or need a jump at Council Bluff Lake, help is one phone call away. Review the coverage tiers carefully if you are planning longer trips on Mark Twain National Forest gravel roads, and pick the level that matches your comfort and budget.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Viburnum RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy at the platform level, and every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in plans with confidence. After that window, your refund depends on how far out you are from your trip start date and on special circumstances such as severe weather, which matters in the Ozarks during spring storm season. Cancellation terms are standardized across hosts and managed by RVezy. Book early for popular dates around the Old Iron Days festival in nearby Caledonia, knowing the grace period has your back if plans shift.

Council Bluff Lake's 12-mile loop trail is also dog-approved and stunning in the fall. Keep dogs on a leash of six feet or shorter in developed recreation areas, and bring a tie-out for campsite time. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and cleaning add-on for your specific listing.
fs.usda.gov/r09/marktwainCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Viburnum?
Yes, RV delivery in Viburnum is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you are new to towing. Many RVezy hosts will drive the RV directly to Red Bluff Recreation Area, a nearby Mark Twain National Forest site, or a private property near Viburnum, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no backing a 30-foot trailer down a narrow forest road on day one. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location, and longer stays often qualify for discounted rates. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy and message two or three hosts to compare quotes for your exact campground address.

recreation.gov/camping/gateways/1106When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Viburnum?
The sweet spots are mid-April through early June and all of September through late October. Spring brings dogwood and redbud blooms across the Ozarks with daytime highs in the 65 to 78F range, ideal for hiking Bell Mountain Wilderness. Fall delivers Missouri's oak and hickory color show, typically peaking in mid to late October, with crisp 55 to 70F days. Summer (June through August) is warm and humid with highs near 88F, but the rivers and Council Bluff Lake make it a hit with families. Winters are variable, with January averages around 25 to 45F. Book a Viburnum RV trip for the last weekend of October to catch peak foliage and cooler nights ideal for campfires.
weather.gov/lsx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in the Ozarks?
You've got this. First time renting an RV in the Viburnum area is easier than most people expect, because rural Missouri roads have light traffic and forgiving sightlines compared to big cities. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering everything from the propane and water systems to backing up and dumping tanks. Highway 32 and Highway 19, your main routes around Viburnum, are well-paved two-lane roads with gentle Ozark curves. Take it slow, use lower gears on hills near Bell Mountain, and keep extra following distance. Pro tip: choose a Class B campervan or a 20-22 foot travel trailer for your first trip, they handle just like a large truck and fit easily into Red Bluff Campground sites.
modot.org/safetyWhat happens if my RV breaks down near Viburnum?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 72, a dead battery at a Mark Twain National Forest site, or a tow off a forest road is one phone call away. Iron County has limited cell coverage in deeper sections of the forest, so the team can dispatch help to your last known location once you reach a signal. Your host is also a great first text since they know the RV's quirks. Download offline maps for the Salem Ranger District before you leave Viburnum, and keep a paper Forest Service map in the glovebox as backup.

Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend there. A classic loop from Viburnum heads south through Ozark National Scenic Riverways, then west toward Branson and back, roughly 500 miles total and easily doable in 5 to 7 days.

Fill up in Salem or Potosi before heading deeper into the forest, gas stations get sparse past Bixby. Pro tip: GasBuddy works well across rural Missouri and often saves $5 to $10 per tank.

Highway 32 east-west and Highway 19 north-south are the main paved routes, both two-lane with light traffic and rolling Ozark curves. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk (Iron County has heavy deer activity), occasional logging trucks, and slow-moving farm equipment in spring. Forest Service gravel roads inside Mark Twain National Forest are passable for most RVs but can get rutted after heavy rain, stick to numbered forest roads if you're new to towing. Winter ice storms can hit December through February. Pro tip: check the Missouri Department of Transportation Traveler Information Map before heading out, and avoid narrow Highway TT and similar lettered routes with a rig over 25 feet.
