Campgrounds and RV parks near Woodson Terrace, MO

The main draw is the St. Louis riverfront and Forest Park. Gateway Arch National Park, the free St. Louis Zoo, the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Saint Louis Science Center, and the City Museum are all within a fifteen- to twenty-minute drive of Woodson Terrace, and Busch Stadium hosts Cardinals baseball from spring through fall. For lower-key days, guests at Sundermeier RV Park have access to the Katy Trail State Park for hiking and biking, along with Echols Park trailheads three blocks away, plus the historic South Main Street district in St. Charles. On the Illinois side, guests at the St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey can walk or bike across the Historic Route 66 Chain of Rocks Bridge, and Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site is a short drive from Cahokia RV Parque.

The greater St. Louis area has a humid continental climate with a very large seasonal swing. Summers are hot and muggy, winters are very cold and snowy, and it is partly cloudy year round, with the temperature typically varying from 25°F to 89°F. Late April through June and September into mid-October are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. Spring is the wettest window and brings the region's severe-weather season, with thunderstorms most frequent from March through May. Spring is the rainiest season due to the clash between air masses and afternoon thunderstorms, which continue throughout the summer, although gradually less frequently. Summer heat and humidity peak in July and August, and shaded sites fill quickly on Cardinals home-game weekends. Winter is quiet but real: the city normally has 19 days a year when it never warms up to above freezing, and frosty days can happen from November to March, but are most common in January. Several nearby parks stay open year-round, though pool amenities and shuttles typically shut down after Labor Day.

Sites in the St. Louis metro lean urban and paved rather than wooded. Sundermeier offers 106 level concrete pads, 39 pull-thrus, wide paved streets, and ADA-compliant restrooms and laundry, with true 30/50 amp electric service, cable TV with antenna or satellite, and free Wi-Fi. Full hookups are the norm at the parks closest to the city. Train, jet, and highway noise is a common thread. The train can be loud and vibrations felt, and planes go by pretty much every few minutes on many days at Sundermeier, and Casino Queen sits beside the Metro line and interstate. Most parks are pet friendly on leash, and quiet hours generally run from around 9 or 10 p.m. to early morning.
