Campgrounds and RV parks near Kimball, NE

Kimball sits in the far southwestern corner of the Nebraska Panhandle at just over 4,700 feet, near the point where Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado meet. The town is a common I-80 stop for RVers moving between the Rocky Mountain front and the central Plains, and it works well as a base for the Wildcat Hills, Chimney Rock, and the North Platte Valley to the north. Camping options range from full-hookup RV parks to primitive state sites. High Point RV Park is located along I-80 in Kimball and offers full hookups, showers, and restrooms. Oliver Reservoir State Recreation Area sits eight miles west of Kimball on U.S. Highway 30 and is the closest lake camping in the southwest Panhandle. Just across the state line, Pine Bluffs RV Resort provides another I-80 option, while Area 3 - Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area and Chimney Rock Pioneer Crossing extend the trip north toward Gering and Bayard.

Reservation systems differ by campground type. Oliver Reservoir takes no reservations: campers show up and fill out registration at the kiosk, with 48 campsites with fire pits and overflow camping available. Overnight camping is free, though donations support park upkeep. Area 3 - Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area uses a split system. Reservations are available for half of the campsites, while the other half is first-come, first-serve, and campers must register at the Nature Center or self-pay station after hours (pay stations accept cash or check only). Reservable Nebraska state park sites are booked through the Nebraska Game and Parks system on ReserveAmerica, and all vehicles need a park entry permit, which is separate from camping fees. Private parks including High Point RV Park, Pine Bluffs RV Resort, and Chimney Rock Pioneer Crossing take direct online or phone bookings; sites fill fastest on summer weekends.
