Campgrounds near Macy, Nebraska
Macy is a small community in Thurston County, Nebraska, serving as the tribal seat of the Omaha Reservation in the northeast corner of the state. The town sits above the Missouri River bottomlands, and most developed campgrounds close to Macy are found on the Iowa side of the river near Onawa, a short drive east across the Decatur bridge.
Blue Lake, an oxbow of the Missouri, anchors the nearest cluster of RV parks. Lewis And Clark State Park is the main public option, with a lakeshore campground that offers electrical and full hook-up sites, modern restrooms and showers, and a trailer dump station. The park also features a full-size keelboat replica at its visitor center. Onawa / Blue Lake KOA Holiday, Sunset at Blue Oasis RV Park - Onawa, and On-Ur-Wa RV Park sit within a couple of miles of the state park, giving RV travelers several private-park alternatives with full hookups.
Blue Ox Factory and RV Park, tied to the Blue Ox towing manufacturer, offers another practical stopover for travelers passing through the region on Interstate 29.
Things to do near Macy
Blue Lake is the recreation hub of the area. It supports boating and swimming at a sandy beach, with no restrictions on motor size and a double boat ramp for lake access, and anglers fish for panfish, bass, channel catfish and northern pike. Kayakers and paddleboarders use the calm oxbow water, and an accessible, paved lakeshore path runs along the shore.
History travelers can tour the Lewis and Clark keelboat replicas and interpretive displays at Lewis And Clark State Park in Onawa. The Loess Hills National Scenic Byway climbs distinctive wind-deposited bluffs just east of the river, offering hiking, wildflower viewing, and overlook drives.
Closer to Macy itself, the Omaha Tribe hosts an annual powwow in August, one of the longest-running in North America, and the tribe manages surrounding lands with permit-based hunting and fishing access.

How to book near Macy
Reservations at Lewis And Clark State Park are made through the Iowa DNR system at iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com. One hundred percent of these campsites can be reserved up to 3 months in advance, and Iowa retains 25% of all campsites as non-reservable so more can be available for first-come, first-served. There is a 2-night minimum on weekends and a 14-night maximum stay with 3 nights in between stays.
Onawa / Blue Lake KOA Holiday is booked directly through koa.com or by phone. Sunset at Blue Oasis RV Park - Onawa, On-Ur-Wa RV Park, and Blue Ox Factory and RV Park take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. For Nebraska state parks farther out, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission accepts camping reservations up to 180 days in advance of arrival date.
What to expect near Macy
Expect a rural, agricultural setting with lakefront sites at Lewis And Clark State Park and open, grassy pull-throughs at the private parks nearby. Hundreds of dead or dying cottonwood trees were removed from the park recently, so shaded campsites are limited while replacement trees establish. The state park has electric and full-hookup sites, modern restrooms and showers, and a trailer dump station.
The KOA offers full hookups, a seasonal pool, and rental cabins. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the I-29 corridor. Mosquitoes and biting flies can be persistent near the lake in midsummer, and summer storms occasionally trigger severe-weather warnings, so RVers should monitor NOAA weather radio.
