Campgrounds and RV parks near El Cerro Mission, NM

The area's signature landmark is Tomé Hill (El Cerro de Tomé), a listed National Register site with a short hike to a hilltop shrine and interpretive markers on the El Camino Real. It is open to the public year round and works well as a family day hike. Tomé Hill also hosts a well-known Good Friday pilgrimage each spring. Isleta Lakes offers stocked fishing year round, with channel catfish in the warm months and rainbow trout in cooler months, plus a shuttle to the Isleta Resort and Casino for golf, bowling, and dining. In the Manzanos, Manzano Mountains State Park has about 3.5 miles of hiking and interpretive trails, birding, wildlife viewing, and dark-sky stargazing at 7,250 feet. Albuquerque attractions such as the Sandia Peak Tramway and Old Town are within an easy drive.

Winter brings occasional snow in the valley from November through March and heavier snow in the mountains. The final mile of gravel access road into Manzano Mountains State Park can deteriorate after hard rain or snow. Valley parks like Isleta Lakes and American RV Resort stay open year round.

Valley parks are geared to full-service RV stays. Isleta Lakes and RV Park offers around 100 full-hookup sites with 30/50-amp power, Wi-Fi, laundry, showers, a convenience store, and 24-hour on-site security, plus two on-site lakes and a casino shuttle; note that an active rail line runs along the property and trains pass through into the evening. American RV Resort provides similar full-hookup amenities on the west side of Albuquerque. Manzano Mountains State Park is more rustic. Sites are gravel and reached by roughly two miles of paved road off NM-131 plus a final mile of gravel road that can wash out after heavy rain. Individual sites do not have water or sewer hookups, though a dump station with potable water is on site. Portable and vault toilets only, no showers. Maximum RV length is 50 feet, but big-rig-friendly sites are limited, so measure carefully.
