Campgrounds and RV parks near Radium Springs, NM

Leasburg Dam State Park offers a cactus garden, several hiking trails, opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and birding, plus popular night sky programs at an on-site observatory. Fort Selden Historic Site sits adjacent to the park and preserves adobe ruins of a nineteenth-century frontier post. Within a short drive, visitors can head to White Sands National Park for gypsum-dune sledding, hike the Dripping Springs Natural Area in the Organ Mountains, and explore the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces. Old Mesilla's plaza offers restaurants, shops, and San Albino Basilica. Biking and birding along the Rio Grande bosque are popular from fall through spring, and stargazing is excellent given the region's dark skies.

Summers are hot and mostly sunny, winters are short and cool, and the area is dry year round. Late June through mid-September brings the North American Monsoon, when afternoon thunderstorms are common and flash flooding can affect low-water crossings and desert washes. July is typically the wettest month, averaging about 2.28 inches of rainfall, and daytime highs in July and August routinely climb into the mid-90s Fahrenheit. Fall is the peak comfort window for RV travel. Days are warm, nights cool, and skies are generally clear from late September through November. Winter is the busy season for snowbirds: daytime temperatures are mild, but overnight lows can drop below freezing, so freshwater hose management matters. Spring runs warm and windy. March and April bring gusty afternoons and blowing dust, particularly across the Mesilla Valley and along I-10. By May, temperatures climb quickly and fire restrictions may take effect on public lands.

Expect a high-desert environment: bright sun, low humidity, sandy or gravel pads, and sparse shade. Bring sun protection, a windbreak or awning tie-downs for spring gusts, and plenty of drinking water. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the I-25 and I-10 corridors. Leasburg Dam State Park offers electric and water hookup sites, potable water, restrooms with showers, and a dump station, though tree cover is limited and sites accommodate RVs and trailers between 15 and 40 feet. The Las Cruces private parks offer full hookups, laundry, Wi-Fi, and pull-through sites suited to larger Class A rigs and fifth wheels. Wildlife includes roadrunners, jackrabbits, and occasional rattlesnakes in warmer months. Keep pets leashed and check under slides before retracting.
