Camping near Cambridge, New York
Cambridge sits in Washington County in eastern New York, close to the Vermont border and within a short drive of Saratoga Springs, Lake George, and the southern Green Mountains. The area is best known for the Battenkill, one of the Northeast's classic trout streams, and for the rolling farmland and low ridges that surround the village.
RV travelers have a small but varied set of nearby campgrounds to choose from. Lake Lauderdale Campground sits on County Route 61 with views of the lake and surrounding mountains across more than 50 acres of park-owned property, offering cabin rentals, RV sites, and tent camping with a playground, picnic tables, fire circles, restrooms with hot showers, and laundry facilities. Camping on the Battenkill, Adventure Bound Deer Run, Pine Hollow Campground, and Broken Wheel Campground round out the options within a reasonable drive.
Cambridge sits about 20 minutes from Saratoga Springs and close to the Vermont border, making it a practical base for exploring Washington County or crossing into the Green Mountains for a day.
Things to do around Cambridge
The Battenkill is the centerpiece for warm-weather activity. Fly fishing for trout, tubing, kayaking, and canoeing are all common on the river, and outfitters in the Cambridge area rent gear and run shuttles. On-site activities at Lake Lauderdale Campground include themed weekends, basketball, hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, which covers most of what families look for between day trips.
Hiking and nature access is available on nearby state land, including Batten Kill State Forest, which is open to paddling and other recreation. Families staying at campgrounds with playgrounds and game rooms will find plenty to fill downtime between excursions to Saratoga Race Course, the Bennington Battle Monument across the state line, or the shops in Cambridge village.

The camping season in this part of upstate New York is short but reliable. Most private campgrounds around Cambridge open in mid-to-late spring and close by mid-October, driven by hard freezes and the shutdown of water systems. Late May through early October is the practical window for RV travel, with July and August the busiest.
Summer brings warm days, cool nights, and reliable river flow for tubing and paddling. Early summer can be buggy in wooded sites, and thunderstorms are common on hot afternoons. Fall foliage typically peaks in the first two weeks of October and draws heavy weekend traffic; reservations tighten well in advance.
Winter is cold and snowy across the region. Days below freezing are common, snowfall is frequent, and precipitation is well-distributed throughout the year. Private campgrounds close for the season, and off-season camping is limited to primitive use on state forest land.

How to book campgrounds near Cambridge
Private campgrounds around Cambridge are booked directly with each property or through third-party platforms. Lake Lauderdale Campground offers Instant Book sites, while any non-Instant Book sites still require campground approval. Camping on the Battenkill, Adventure Bound Deer Run, Pine Hollow Campground, and Broken Wheel Campground all handle bookings through their own sites, phone, or common listing platforms.
Holidays, the Saratoga racing meet in late July and August, and fall-foliage weekends fill first. Booking two to three months out is reasonable for summer weekends, longer for holidays. For primitive stays on Batten Kill State Forest, dispersed camping is allowed but must be at least 150 feet from any water body, road, or trail, and stays longer than three nights or groups of ten or more require a permit from a Forest Ranger.
What to expect on the ground
Sites around Cambridge range from primitive tent spots to full-hookup RV pads. Options range from primitive to three-way hookups, with cabin and trailer rentals, a store, playground, rec building, and laundry available at some properties. Lake Lauderdale features full hookups with water, sewer, electrical, and 50-amp service, plus pull-through sites for big rigs, and on-site amenities including hot showers, laundry, a general store, propane fill, a dump station, and RV storage. Larger Class A coaches should confirm site length and turning access when booking.
Cell coverage in Washington County is uneven; expect gaps on back roads and inside forested loops. Grocery, fuel, and propane are available in Cambridge village and in Greenwich to the south. Black bears are present in the region, so food should be stored inside the RV or a hard-sided container overnight. Bring layers even in summer, insect repellent for evenings, and rain gear.

washingtoncounty.fun/our-county/cambridge-new-york/How far can I travel on a Cambridge RV trip?
Cambridge sits in a sweet spot for an RV road trip from Cambridge that opens up the whole Northeast. Saratoga Springs is only 35 miles west (about 45 minutes), Lake George is 60 miles north (just over an hour), Bennington, Vermont is 25 miles east, the Adirondacks' southern gateway is 90 minutes north, and Montreal is roughly a 4-hour drive up I-87. Hosts set their own mileage policies, with many offering 100-150 free miles per night and some listings including RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: filter for unlimited mileage if you're planning a multi-state loop through New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/saratoga-capital/Where are the best campgrounds near Cambridge, NY?
You're surrounded by great options for RV camping Cambridge NY. Lake Lauderdale Campground (744 County Route 61) is just 5 miles north with full hookups, lake swimming, and big-rig friendly sites from about $49 a night. Camping on the Battenkill in nearby Arlington, VT offers riverside sites perfect for tubing. Moreau Lake State Park (about 45 minutes northwest) has 150+ wooded sites with a sandy beach. For a more developed feel, Saratoga Escape Lodges & RV Resort in Greenfield Center has pools, pull-throughs, and full hookups. Pro tip: book New York State Park sites up to 9 months in advance on the official reservation site, especially for summer weekends.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time to visit Cambridge, NY in an RV?
Cambridge is genuinely a three-season destination with a standout fall. Summer (June through August) averages highs of 78-82°F and lows around 58°F, perfect for tubing the Battenkill, with the Washington County Fair drawing huge crowds in late August. September and early October bring crisp 60-70°F days and some of the most jaw-dropping foliage in the Northeast as the Taconic and Adirondack foothills light up. Spring (April-May) is muddier but quiet and cheap. Winters get cold (highs in the 20s-30s°F, regular snow), so most private campgrounds close mid-October through April. Pro tip: book the last week of September for peak leaf-peeping with smaller crowds.
weather.gov/aly/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work in Cambridge?
First time renting an RV? You're in good hands. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump procedure so nothing feels like a mystery. You can message the host through the listing before booking with any question, big or small. Cambridge is an ideal starter location: roads like Route 22 and Route 372 are wide, low-traffic, and scenic, with none of the tight turns or steep grades of mountain driving. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan for your first trip, then graduate to a bigger rig once you've got a weekend under your belt.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something breaks down during my trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so whether it's a flat tire on Route 22, a dead battery at Lake Lauderdale, or a tow needed back from the Adirondacks, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also typically just a text away for quick questions like resetting a breaker or relighting the water heater. Cambridge's location near Saratoga and Bennington means RV-certified service shops are within an hour if anything more serious comes up. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before pulling out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I cross into Vermont or Canada with my Cambridge RV rental?
Yes to Vermont, and often yes to Canada with host approval. Cambridge sits just 10 miles from the Vermont border, so day trips and overnights to Bennington, Manchester, or Woodford State Park are completely standard, no extra paperwork needed. Many hosts also allow cross-border travel into Canada (Montreal is only about 200 miles north via I-87), but you must message the host before booking to confirm and get the right insurance documentation. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance doesn't extend there. Pro tip: bring your passport or enhanced driver's license if Canada is even a maybe.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/western-hemisphere-travel-initiativeHow much should I budget for fuel on a Cambridge RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your trip budget, but Cambridge's central location keeps total mileage modest. Most Class C motorhomes get 8-12 miles per gallon (mpg), campervans 15-20 mpg, and Class A motorhomes 6-10 mpg. With New York gas prices typically running $3.30-$3.80 per gallon, a weekend loop through Saratoga, Lake George, and back (about 150 miles total) usually costs $50-$80 in fuel. There's a Stewart's Shops right in Cambridge village on Route 22 and several stations in Greenwich 8 miles south. Pro tip: fill up in Vermont when crossing the border, fuel taxes there are often lower than New York's.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Cambridge?
For the best sites, book early but don't panic if you're a late planner. New York State Parks like Moreau Lake open reservations 9 months ahead through the official ReserveAmerica system, and prime July-August weekends do sell out months in advance. Private campgrounds like Lake Lauderdale Campground typically open bookings each winter for the May 1-October 15 season and fill quickly for holiday weekends. Midweek and shoulder-season sites are usually available within a week or two of arrival. Pro tip: if your dream site is sold out, set up a free cancellation alert through services like Campnab, since last-minute openings happen constantly.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Cambridge, NY?
Cambridge is one of the easiest places in the Northeast to drive an RV. The village sits in rolling farm country off Route 22, a wide two-lane state route with gentle grades, and Route 372 connects you west to Greenwich and the Northway (I-87). You won't deal with city traffic, tunnels, or low clearances locally. Watch for two things: occasional farm equipment on rural roads (just slow down and pass when safe) and snow or ice between November and March, when temperatures regularly drop below freezing. Pro tip: check the official New York 511 system for real-time road and weather conditions before heading toward the Adirondacks.
511ny.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Cambridge?
Campgrounds around Cambridge range from rustic to full-service, and most cover the basics beautifully. Lake Lauderdale Campground has full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), hot showers, laundry, a dump station, and a camp store. Moreau Lake State Park offers electric hookups at many sites, comfort stations with showers, and a centralized dump station. Where to dump and fill water in Cambridge: most private campgrounds let day-trip guests use their dump for a small fee (usually $10-$20), and the Stewart's Shops in town has potable water. Pro tip: ask your host whether the RV's fresh water tank is full at pickup. Many top off as a courtesy.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's actually inside a typical RVezy rental in Cambridge?
More than you'd expect. Most motorhome rental Cambridge NY listings come fully equipped: real beds (queen or king in larger rigs, convertible dinettes for kids), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (furnace and air conditioning), and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Many include a generator for off-grid camping, a flat-screen TV, and even Wi-Fi hotspots or solar setups. Linens, camp chairs, and outdoor mats are often add-ons. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list and message the host if anything specific (like an outdoor griddle for those Battenkill morning pancakes) is a must-have for your trip.
dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/campingWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Cambridge offer plenty of ways to customize your trip. Common add-ons include bedding and towel packages ($25-$75), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generator hours, kayaks or bikes, propane refills, and even pre-stocked kitchen kits. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or around Cambridge, Greenwich, or Salem, with a 30-60 minute orientation included. Many listings offer delivery to local campgrounds for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by host: expect 100-150 free miles per night, with some offering unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a bedding package if it's your first trip. It transforms the experience from a rental into a true vacation.
washingtoncounty.fun/our-county/cambridge-new-york/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy: you'll pay your trip total securely at booking using a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is placed on hold separately from your booking payment before your trip starts and released after your return, assuming the rig comes back in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's fuel and dump-station instructions, and keep your receipts. Pro tip: read the listing's house rules (smoking, pets, mileage) carefully before booking. Following them is the easiest way to get your full deposit back fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere are the best road trip destinations from Cambridge, NY?
You're perfectly positioned for an unforgettable RV road trip from Cambridge. Saratoga Springs (35 miles, 45 min) for horse racing and mineral springs; Lake George (60 miles, 75 min) for beaches and Adirondack views; Manchester, Vermont (25 miles, 40 min) for outlet shopping and the Green Mountains; Lake Placid (140 miles, 2.5 hrs) for high-peak hiking; and the Finger Lakes wine country (about 200 miles, 4 hrs) for a long-weekend loop. A family RV trip Cambridge NY can easily combine three of these in a week. Pro tip: drive the scenic Route 22 corridor north for the most beautiful, low-stress RV miles in the entire state.
