Camping near Camden, New York
Camden sits in northern Oneida County at the western edge of the Adirondack foothills, roughly 25 miles north of Utica and 20 miles north of Oneida Lake. The area draws RV travelers with a mix of private campgrounds, state park lakefront sites, and primitive state forest camping, plus quick access to fishing waters, snowmobile-turned-hiking trails, and the Tug Hill Plateau to the northwest.
Most trips base out of a private park within a short drive of town. Whispering Woods Campground and Ta-Ga-Soke Campgrounds are the closest full-service options, while The Landing Campground, Mayfair Campground NY, and Treasure Isle RV Park sit farther out toward Oneida Lake and the Mohawk River corridor. Expect a range from wooded tent-friendly loops to full-hookup RV sites with pools and playgrounds.
Public options add variety. Verona Beach State Park on Oneida Lake offers waterfront tent and RV sites plus cabins, and nearby state forests around the Salmon River Reservoir and Winona State Forest allow primitive tent camping for self-sufficient travelers.
Things to do around Camden
Water is the main draw. Oneida Lake supports boating, swimming, and fishing for walleye, bass, and perch, with a lifeguarded swimming beach and splash pad at Verona Beach State Park. Delta Lake, a reservoir near Rome, is a popular fishing and day-use spot with a state park that has a beach and picnic areas.
On land, Winona State Forest carries an extensive trail network used for hiking and mountain biking in warm months and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Families often pair a campground stay with day trips to the Sylvan Beach amusement park on Oneida Lake, the Utica Zoo, or the Turning Stone resort area in Verona for arcades, mini golf, and dining.
Rainy days work well for the small-town shops and diners in Camden and Rome.

The Camden camping season generally runs from late April through mid-October, tracking the pattern used by most private parks and the nearby state park. Verona Beach State Park typically operates from late May to mid-October, and most private campgrounds in the area follow a similar late-April through mid-October window. Winter closures are the norm because of heavy lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario.
July and August are peak, with warm days averaging in the mid-70s Fahrenheit and long stretches of drier weather. This is prime lake time but also when weekend sites at popular campgrounds book earliest. June brings long daylight and fewer crowds; expect black flies and mosquitoes near wetlands early in the month.
September and early October deliver cooler nights, fall color in the Adirondack foothills, and easier reservations. Fall also brings wetter weather, so pack rain gear. By early November, most facilities are winterized and closed.

How to book a site near Camden
New York State-run sites, including Verona Beach State Park on Oneida Lake, are booked through ReserveAmerica. The New York State Parks system uses a rolling nine-month advance window, with sites for a given arrival date released at 8 AM Eastern on weekdays and 9 AM on weekends during the March 15 through Labor Day period. DEC-managed campgrounds in the Adirondack and Catskill forest preserves use the same portal and the same nine-month window.
Private campgrounds around Camden, including Whispering Woods Campground, Ta-Ga-Soke Campgrounds, The Landing Campground, Mayfair Campground NY, and Treasure Isle RV Park, take reservations directly through each operator. For summer weekends and holiday weeks, book several months out; midweek stays are generally easier to secure and quieter.
What to expect on the ground
Private parks near Camden lean family-oriented, with pools, playgrounds, camp stores, and organized weekend activities in peak season. Site mix ranges from back-in wooded sites to pull-through full-hookup RV sites; larger rigs should confirm length and hookup type when booking, since some older parks have tighter interior roads.
Verona Beach State Park offers more space and lake access but fewer hookups than the private options, with a dump station on site and no sewer at individual sites. Primitive state forest sites have fire rings and little else, so plan to be fully self-sufficient with water, waste, and power.
Cell coverage is generally reliable in and around town, patchier in state forests and along back roads. Bring layers year-round; nights cool off quickly this far north.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Camden, NY
How much does an RV rental in Camden, NY typically cost?
An RV rental in Camden is one of the most affordable ways to explore Oneida County and the Tug Hill region. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from roughly $175 to $295 per night, and campervans usually fall somewhere in between. Because Camden is a small village, prices tend to be friendlier than near Syracuse or Utica. To find a cheap RV rental in Camden, book midweek (Sunday through Thursday), aim for shoulder season in May or September, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book to lock in your dates quickly during the busy June through August stretch.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camden,%20New%20YorkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Camden, NY?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Camden for the vast majority of rigs on RVezy. New York allows a standard Class D license for motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which covers nearly every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on the platform. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older and must verify their ID during booking. Visiting from abroad? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you are set to roll into the Tug Hill foothills.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection comes with my Camden RV rental?
You can book your Camden RV trip with real peace of mind. Every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pull out of the driveway until you return the keys. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip (not the host), which means you stay in control of your deductible and coverage. For a first-time RV camping Camden trip exploring Oneida Lake and the Adirondack foothills, that built-in safety net is a big deal.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Camden RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can change your mind without stress. After that, your refund depends on factors like how far out your trip is and unexpected events, which matters in a region that can get sudden Tug Hill snow squalls or summer thunderstorms rolling off Oneida Lake. You will see the exact details during checkout and in your RVezy account. Pro tip: message your host early if your plans shift, since many are flexible about adjusting pickup times when possible.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Camden RV rental?
Absolutely: a pet-friendly RV rental in Camden is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you will see listings from hosts who happily welcome four-legged co-pilots (some charge a small pet fee or cleaning add-on, all disclosed up front). Camden is a fantastic pet destination. Forest Park's 1.75-mile loop off Harden Boulevard is great for leashed walks, and nearby Verona Beach State Park allows pets in campsites and on most trails with proof of rabies vaccination required at check-in. Pro tip: pack a copy of your dog's rabies certificate, since New York State Parks ask for it (metal tags alone are not accepted).
parks.ny.gov/regulations/pets.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Camden?
Yes, and it is one of the best parts of renting on RVezy. Many Camden-area hosts offer RV delivery in Camden and the surrounding Oneida County area. They will tow or drive the RV to your campground, driveway, or event site, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before you even unpack your cooler. This is the easiest way to do a motorhome rental Camden trip if you are nervous about driving a big rig on Route 13 or backing into a wooded site. Popular delivery destinations include Verona Beach State Park, Delta Lake State Park, and private campgrounds near Sylvan Beach. Just message the host before booking to confirm distance and any delivery fee.
parks.ny.gov/parks/verona-beachHow far can I drive my Camden RV rental?
You have plenty of range for an unforgettable RV road trip from Camden. Each host on RVezy sets their own mileage policy, and many offer generous daily allowances or even RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for exploring the Finger Lakes or Adirondacks. From Camden, you are about 35 miles from Syracuse, 45 miles from Utica, 75 miles from the Thousand Islands at Alexandria Bay, 90 miles to Lake Placid in the Adirondacks, and roughly 150 miles to Niagara Falls. Check the listing's mileage details before booking, and if you are planning a big loop, message the host to ask about bundled mileage packages, many will work with you on a fair rate.
dot.ny.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Camden, NY?
You are spoiled for choice with some of the best campgrounds near Camden right in your backyard. Verona Beach State Park, about 20 miles south on the eastern shore of Oneida Lake, offers waterfront RV sites with a sandy beach, a dump station, and 13 miles of trails. Delta Lake State Park near Rome (about 25 miles east) has spacious lakefront sites stocked with bass, perch, and pike. Ta-Ga-Soke Campgrounds and Treasure Isle RV Park sit near Oneida Lake for full-hookup convenience. For a quieter Adirondack feel, head to Pixley Falls State Park north of Boonville. Pro tip: New York State Parks book through ReserveAmerica up to 9 months ahead, so plan early for summer weekends.
parks.ny.gov/parks/verona-beachWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Camden?
Camden has a true four-season climate, and late spring through early fall is prime time for RV camping in Camden. Mid-May through early October brings warm days (highs of 70 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit in summer) and cool, comfortable nights, with most area campgrounds open from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day. September and early October are a local insider favorite: the Tug Hill and Adirondack foothills explode into red and gold foliage, bugs disappear, and campgrounds quiet down. Winter brings serious lake-effect snow (Camden sits on the edge of one of the snowiest belts in the lower 48), making it more of a snowmobile season than an RV one. Aim for June through September for the easiest, most rewarding trip.
weather.gov/bgm/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay in Camden?
Absolutely, first time renting an RV in Camden is easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump procedures before you leave. You can also message your host with questions before you book, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after the trip. Camden's rural roads and gentle terrain make it a forgiving place to get comfortable behind the wheel. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first trip and ask your host about delivery so you can skip the highway drive entirely and just enjoy the campfire.
dmv.ny.gov/new-driversWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire, dead battery, lockout, or mechanical issue is just one phone call away from being handled. Your host is also a great first resource since they know their rig inside out, and RVezy support is reachable any time. Cell coverage around Camden, Oneida Lake, and the I-90 corridor is generally strong, though it can thin out in the Tug Hill backcountry, so keep the roadside number saved offline. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup so you have a clear record before you head out toward Verona Beach or Delta Lake.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Camden RV rental into Canada or other states?
Yes, with a little planning. Camden sits only about 90 miles from the Thousand Islands border crossing into Ontario, making cross-border road trips totally doable, but you must get written permission from your host before crossing, and the host will confirm insurance coverage applies in Canada. Travel into the United States from Canada is similarly possible with host approval. One firm rule: travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance does not extend there. Multi-state US trips are welcome, popular RV road trips from Camden include Niagara Falls (150 miles), Vermont's Green Mountains (180 miles), and the New Hampshire White Mountains (300 miles). Bring your passport for Canada and message the host early to smooth the approval.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much will fuel cost on my Camden RV trip?
Budgeting fuel for your Camden RV trip is straightforward. Class B campervans typically average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get about 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes run 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, usually 10 to 14 MPG combined. Gas prices in the Camden and Rome area generally track slightly below the New York State average. Pro tip: fuel up in Camden, Rome, or Westmoreland before heading north into the Tug Hill or Adirondacks, since stations get sparse and pricier the farther you go from I-90. Drive 55 to 60 mph to maximize MPG and save real money over a week-long trip.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Camden?
For the smoothest RV camping Camden experience, book your campsite as soon as your RV dates are locked in. New York State Parks like Verona Beach and Delta Lake open reservations 9 months ahead through the ReserveAmerica system, and prime summer weekends (especially Fourth of July and Labor Day) often fill within hours of opening. For more flexibility, weekday stays and shoulder-season trips in May, September, or early October usually have wide-open availability even a week out. Private campgrounds around Oneida Lake and Sylvan Beach also book up fast for summer holidays. Pro tip: same-day reservations at state parks are allowed online until 3 p.m. on arrival day, a lifesaver for spontaneous trips.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Camden?
Driving an RV around Camden is refreshingly low-stress compared to most metro areas. The village sits at the junction of NY Route 13 and NY Route 69, both two-lane highways with gentle grades and light traffic. You will find easy connections to I-90 (the New York Thruway) about 25 miles south at Verona, and Route 13 takes you straight to Oneida Lake. Watch for two things: lake-effect snow squalls from late November through March that can drop visibility fast on Tug Hill, and the occasional low-clearance bridge on rural backroads (New York's standard limit is 13 feet 6 inches). Pro tip: check 511NY before you roll for real-time road and weather alerts across the state.
511ny.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Camden?
You will find well-equipped campgrounds across the Camden area. Verona Beach State Park offers electric hookups at most RV sites, hot showers, flush restrooms, a dump station, firewood for sale, and a swimming beach on Oneida Lake (water spigots are scattered around the loops rather than at every site). Delta Lake State Park has similar amenities plus shaded lakefront sites. Private parks like Treasure Isle RV Park and Ta-Ga-Soke offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer) and Wi-Fi. For dumping and filling fresh water between trips, most state parks let registered campers use the dump station free, and the Pilot Travel Center in Westmoreland off I-90 is a convenient alternative. Pro tip: bring a 30-amp to 50-amp adapter just in case.
parks.ny.gov/parks/delta-lakeWhat features will my Camden RV rental have inside?
Most RVs on RVezy come fully equipped so you can roll in and relax. Expect a real bed (often a queen, plus convertible dinette and bunk options), a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Many listings include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator or solar setup for off-grid stays at places like Pixley Falls. Wi-Fi varies by host (some include mobile hotspots). Pro tip: when browsing campervan rental Camden listings, check each listing's amenities section and message the host if you need something specific like a child car seat anchor or pet ramp, many will happily accommodate.
nhtsa.gov/equipment/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options can I choose for my Camden RV rental?
You can customize your RV rental in Camden, NY to match your trip exactly. Common host-offered add-ons include linen and towel packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, outdoor furniture and chairs, propane refills, generator hours, bike racks, and pet packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Camden, but as mentioned many hosts offer delivery and setup directly to your campground for a flat fee or per-mile rate. Mileage policies vary: some hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per day, others offer unlimited mileage for an extra daily fee. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a linen and kitchen kit for a true turnkey trip, you literally just show up at Verona Beach and start your vacation.
oneidacountytourism.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy at booking using a credit card, never directly to the host, which protects your money and qualifies your trip for the included renter protection plan. A refundable security deposit is held separately before pickup (the amount is set by each host and clearly shown on the listing). As long as the RV comes back in the same condition it left in, with the tanks handled per the host's instructions, your deposit is released after the trip. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with your host at pickup and return, this five-minute habit prevents most deposit disputes and gets you back on the road to your next New York adventure faster.
