Campgrounds and RV parks near Celoron, NY

Chautauqua Lake is the main draw. Visitors use the public boat launch at Lucille Ball Memorial Park in Celoron for fishing, kayaking, and pontoon days, and the lake is home to a large fish population, including walleye, small- and largemouth bass, yellow and white perch, crappie, and muskellunge. Long Point State Park in Bemus Point has a swimming area, boat launch, and short hiking trails. Off the water, Jamestown holds the National Comedy Center and the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum, both a few minutes from Celoron. The Chautauqua Institution on the west shore runs a summer program of lectures, concerts, and theater. Midway State Park in Bemus Point is one of the oldest continually operating amusement parks in the nation, with a vintage carousel, mini golf, go-karts, and many kiddie rides. The Lake Erie Wine Trail and Peek'n Peak resort are within a short drive for day trips.

The RV season around Chautauqua Lake runs roughly from May through mid-October, with most private parks opening in early May and closing after the fall foliage weekends. Peak demand is June through August, driven by warm-water boating, Chautauqua Institution programming, and family vacations. Sites at the larger resorts commonly book weeks ahead for July weekends and holiday periods. Spring is cool and wet, with lake water still cold and some sites soft after snowmelt. Late September and early October bring reliable fall color across the surrounding hills and quieter campgrounds, though nights turn cold and some amenities such as pools close after Labor Day. Winter is long and snowy. This corner of New York sits in the Lake Erie snow belt and sees heavy lake-effect accumulations, so most campgrounds shut down for the season. December is the month with the most snowfall, with snow falling for 17.1 days and accumulating about 7.68 inches. A few properties keep limited seasonal or winterized sites open for ice fishing and snowmobiling.

Expect a mix of lake-resort and wooded-camp environments. Larger private parks near Celoron lean family-focused, with pools, playgrounds, mini-golf, planned activities, and full-hookup pull-through sites suitable for larger Class A and fifth-wheel rigs. Smaller operations like Top-A-Rise Camping Area and Camp Prendergast tend to be quieter, with a higher share of shaded, water-and-electric sites. Cell coverage around the south end of the lake is generally solid on major carriers. Roads into the campgrounds are paved or well-maintained gravel, and grocery, propane, and RV supply stops are available in Jamestown and Lakewood. Untreated firewood grown in New York may not be transported more than 50 miles from its source or origin unless it has been heat-treated, so plan to buy certified heat-treated firewood on site or nearby rather than bringing your own.
