Campgrounds and RV parks near Fultonville, NY

The Mohawk River corridor is the main draw. Boating, kayaking, and fishing are available along the river and on nearby lakes, and the Erie Canalway Trail runs through the area for cycling and walking. Old Fort Johnson and the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site cover the region's colonial and canal-era history. Families staying at Pecks Lake Enterprises can use the on-site marina for boat and kayak rentals, with swimming and fishing on Peck's Lake. Royal Mountain Campground puts guests near hiking trails and the Caroga Lake state land, with a small ski area on the property. Howe Caverns, Secret Caverns, and the Iroquois Indian Museum sit within a short drive south, and Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, is roughly an hour west.

The RV season in the Mohawk Valley runs roughly from early May through mid-October, and most private campgrounds around Fultonville follow that window. Operating dates vary year to year, so confirm directly with Pecks Lake Enterprises, Royal Mountain Campground, and Hide-A-Way Campsites before booking shoulder-season stays. Summer is the peak booking period. July and August bring the warmest weather, the most lake activity, and the tightest availability, especially on holiday weekends when many parks require three-night minimums. Spring is quieter but wetter, with mud season lingering into May at higher-elevation sites in the Adirondack foothills. Fall brings foliage from late September into mid-October, one of the best times to visit for scenery and cooler nights. After mid-October, most private campgrounds and New York State DEC campgrounds in the region close for the winter, though a few sites remain accessible for self-contained RVs.

Most campgrounds in the Fultonville area are small, family-owned operations rather than large resort parks. Expect wooded or lakeside sites with electric and water hookups, dump stations, showers, and laundry. Full sewer hookups are less common; many parks rely on a central dump station instead. Cell coverage is generally good near the Thruway corridor but can thin out in the Adirondack foothills to the north. Rig size matters. Some older campgrounds cap RV length on standard 30-amp sites and reserve pull-through or 50-amp sites for larger rigs, so confirm site dimensions when booking. New York rules restrict movement of untreated firewood from more than 50 miles away, and most campgrounds sell certified firewood on-site. Pets are allowed at most parks, with leash rules and occasional breed restrictions.
