Camping near Honeoye, New York
Honeoye sits at the north end of Honeoye Lake in Ontario County, one of the smaller Finger Lakes about 28 miles south of Rochester. The glacially formed lake measures 4.5 miles long and 0.8 miles wide, with a maximum depth of 30 feet, making it the shallowest of the Finger Lakes. The surrounding hills, farmland, and shoreline cottages make the hamlet a practical base for exploring the western Finger Lakes.
RV travelers have several private campgrounds within a short drive. Bristol Woodlands Campground lies between Canandaigua and Honeoye lakes, Tamarack Campgrounds and Holiday Hill Campground sit in the surrounding hills, Creek-N-Wood RV Park and Campground offers full-service sites, and Conesus Lake Campground provides access to the neighboring Finger Lake to the west.
Public land rounds out the options. Nearby state attractions include Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area, Honeoye Lake Boat Launch State Park, Letchworth State Park, and Stony Brook State Park to the south, which adds another gorge-and-waterfall camping option within roughly an hour.
Things to do around Honeoye
The lake itself is the main draw. Honeoye Lake holds walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, bluegill, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, and black crappie, with rooted aquatic vegetation abundant near shore out to about 15 feet of depth. Warm, shallow summer waters make it popular for swimming, boating, and paddling, though small craft should watch for motorized traffic. Sandy Bottom Beach on the north shore offers a public swim area and small-boat launch operated by the Town of Richmond.
Off the water, Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area offers hiking, mountain biking, and long views over the lake. Letchworth State Park, about an hour west, is known as the Grand Canyon of the East and adds waterfalls, gorge trails, and cycling routes. Wineries, farm stands, and small-town shops along the surrounding roads make good half-day trips from a campsite.

The camping season in the western Finger Lakes runs roughly from May through mid-October, with most private campgrounds around Honeoye closing for the deep-winter months. Late spring brings cool nights, muddy trails, and unpredictable rain, and lake water stays chilly into June.
Summer is peak. July and August draw families for swimming, fishing, and wine touring, and weekend sites at popular parks book out well in advance. The area sits in rolling hills between roughly 800 and 2,000 feet of elevation, so nights can cool noticeably even during warm stretches, and layered clothing is worth packing.
Fall is quieter and cooler, with foliage typically peaking in October across the hills around Honeoye, Canadice, and Hemlock lakes. Ice fishing draws winter visitors to Honeoye Lake once safe ice sets in, and snowmobile trails connect the hamlet to surrounding communities, but overnight RV camping in the immediate area is limited outside the main season.

How to book a campsite
Private campgrounds near Honeoye, including Bristol Woodlands Campground, Tamarack Campgrounds, Holiday Hill Campground, Creek-N-Wood RV Park and Campground, and Conesus Lake Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and holiday periods fill early, so booking two to three months out is typical for RV sites with hookups.
For nearby state parks such as Letchworth and Stony Brook, which are managed by OPRHP, reservations go through the ReserveAmerica portal. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites released at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday from March 15 through Labor Day. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites, online or through the ReserveAmerica call center, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only.
What to expect on the ground
Hookups vary by campground. Most private parks in the area offer electric and water at RV sites, with sewer hookups available at some full-service sites and dump stations provided elsewhere. Expect a mix of open and wooded sites; not all pads are level, so bring leveling blocks. Extras such as firewood delivery, laundry, and camp stores are common at the larger private parks, but availability changes year to year, so confirm with the operator.
Cell coverage is inconsistent in the hills south and east of the lake, and some public areas have no service at all. State park campgrounds typically have restrooms, showers, and a central dump station rather than in-site sewer. Firewood should be bought locally to help prevent the spread of invasive pests in New York's forests.

parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworth/When is the best time to take an RV trip to Honeoye?

Mid-July through August is peak lake season for swimming and boating on Honeoye Lake, with temps in the low 80s. Late September through mid-October is the local insider's pick: brilliant Finger Lakes foliage, harvest festivals at Naples grape farms, and cool 55 to 70 F days perfect for hiking. weather.gov/buf/I'm a first time RV renter. Is Honeoye a good place to start?
Honeoye is one of the friendliest spots in New York for a first time renting an RV. Roads around Honeoye Lake, East Lake Road, and Route 20A are wide, lightly trafficked, and refreshingly free of city congestion. Your RVezy host will give you a full orientation at pickup, including how to operate the generator, dump tanks, hook up at a campground, and drive safely. You can also message the host with questions before and during your trip, and RVezy support is available 24/7. Pro tip: book a smaller travel trailer or Class C motorhome for your first Finger Lakes outing, and consider host delivery to skip the driving learning curve entirely.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/driver-manuals-practice-testsWhat if I break down during my Finger Lakes RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is just a phone call away whether you're on Route 20A near Honeoye Lake or deep in Letchworth State Park. The service covers common issues like tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified shop. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app for quick questions about the rig's quirks. Cell service is solid in Honeoye village and along main highways, though it can dip in the Bristol Hills. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pickup so you're ready for anything.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Honeoye RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, most RVezy rentals from Honeoye are cleared for travel across the US, and Honeoye is perfectly placed for an RV road trip from Honeoye to neighboring states. Popular routes include Niagara Falls and Buffalo (2 hours west), the Adirondacks (4 hours northeast), Vermont's Green Mountains (5 hours east), and the Pennsylvania Wilds (2.5 hours south). For cross-border trips into Canada (think Niagara-on-the-Lake or Toronto), message the host before booking to confirm they allow international travel and to arrange the correct insurance documentation. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: bring your passport, even for a day trip across the Rainbow Bridge.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Honeoye RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easiest line items to plan for. Expect a Class C motorhome to get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, a campervan rental in Honeoye around 16 to 20 MPG, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer about 10 to 14 MPG. Gas prices in the Honeoye and Canandaigua area typically run a few cents above the New York state average, with cheaper fill-ups available in Lima or Avon along Interstate 390. For a 4 day, 300 mile loop around the Finger Lakes wine trail, budget roughly $120 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up before heading into Letchworth, where stations are sparse.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Honeoye?
For the best campgrounds near Honeoye, plan ahead and you'll have your pick of sites. New York State Park campgrounds, including Letchworth, Stony Brook, and nearby Hamlin Beach, open reservations up to nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica. For summer weekends and fall foliage in particular, book the day the window opens. Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill takes reservations directly through Ontario County's parks department. Private campgrounds like Bristol Woodlands and Conesus Lake Campground typically fill 2 to 3 months ahead for July and August. Pro tip: midweek nights (Sunday through Thursday) are far easier to grab and often cheaper, perfect for a family RV trip in Honeoye.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What are the driving conditions like around Honeoye?
Driving an RV around Honeoye is genuinely pleasant. The village sits on quiet Route 20A with wide shoulders, and East Lake and West Lake Roads loop the lake with low speeds and minimal traffic. The terrain gets hillier as you head south into the Bristol Hills (Gannett Hill tops out near 2,256 feet), so take it slow downhill and use lower gears. Winter brings heavy lake-effect snow from November through March, which is why most RV rentals operate May through October. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk anywhere outside the village. Pro tip: avoid the narrow, steep grade on County Road 33 with larger Class A rigs and use Route 20A instead.
511ny.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Honeoye?
Campgrounds around Honeoye are well set up for a comfortable stay. Most private parks like Bristol Woodlands offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, and a dump station for anyone on a non-sewer site. State park campgrounds such as Letchworth and Stony Brook typically provide electric-only sites, potable water spigots, flush toilets, and centralized dump stations. You can also top up fresh water and dump tanks at the Honeoye Lake DEC boat launch area and at most regional gas stations with RV lanes. Pro tip: pack a 25 foot fresh water hose and a 30-to-50 amp adapter so you're ready for any hookup configuration.

fmcsa.dot.gov/regulationsHow do payment and security deposits work on an RVezy rental in Honeoye?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your motorhome rental in Honeoye, RVezy charges your card through the platform (never directly to the host) and holds a separate refundable security deposit just before your trip starts, typically a few hundred to over a thousand dollars depending on the size and value of the RV. As long as you return the RV on time, in the same condition, with the tanks emptied and fuel filled per the host's instructions, the deposit is released back to you after dropoff. To avoid any issues, do a quick walkaround video with your host at both pickup and return. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos so everyone's protected.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park overnight with my RV in Honeoye?
You've got plenty of legal overnight options for where to park an RV in Honeoye. The simplest is reserving a site at one of the regional campgrounds: Bristol Woodlands, Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill, Conesus Lake Campground, or Letchworth State Park. Boondocking on town streets is not permitted in Honeoye village, and overnight stays at the Honeoye Lake DEC boat launch are limited to active fishing or launching activities, not sleeping. Some private landowners list overnight spots on RVezy host driveways too. For a quick stopover, the Walmart in Canandaigua (about 15 miles north) historically allows overnight RV parking with manager permission. Pro tip: always call ahead to confirm.
