Campgrounds near Lima, New York
Lima sits in Livingston County in western New York, positioned between Rochester to the north and the western Finger Lakes to the southeast. The village works well as a base for RV travelers because it puts Conesus Lake, Hemlock Lake, Canandaigua Lake, and the Genesee River gorge all within roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate area. Conesus Lake Campground offers the closest lakefront option, while Bristol Woodlands Campground sits east toward the Bristol Hills. Creek-N-Wood RV Park and Campground, Tamarack Campgrounds, and Holiday Hill Campground round out the private options within an hour of town, most with full hookups, dump stations, and family amenities.
Letchworth State Park is located in the Genesee River gorge, 35 miles south of Rochester, placing it within reasonable towing distance for a day trip or an extended stay. State park sites operate seasonally, so private parks near Lima remain the more flexible choice for shoulder-season trips.
Things to do around Lima
Conesus Lake anchors summer recreation west of Lima. Boat launches, fishing for bass and walleye, and lakeside swimming are the main draws, and Conesus Lake Campground provides direct water access for kayaks and small craft.
Letchworth State Park, often called the Grand Canyon of the East, sits within easy reach. Activities include biking, horseback riding, fishing, hiking past numerous scenic views and waterfalls, hunting, swimming, visiting the museum, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. The park also has a swimming pool, playgrounds, and a nature museum for families.
Closer to Lima, riders can explore the Bristol Hills near Bristol Woodlands Campground, tour wineries on the Canandaigua Wine Trail, or visit the Genesee Country Village and Museum in nearby Mumford.

The camping season in western New York runs roughly mid-May through mid-October. Most private parks around Lima and the state-run campgrounds follow this window, and Letchworth State Park's main loops open in mid-May and close in mid-October, which sets a useful benchmark for the regional season.
Summer is peak. July and August bring the warmest weather, the busiest lakefront weekends at Conesus, and the highest demand at Letchworth's electric loops. Book well ahead for holiday weekends. Late September through early October delivers Finger Lakes fall foliage, cooler nights, and thinner crowds, though some private parks begin winterizing after Columbus Day.
Winter camping is limited. Roads and gorge overlooks at Letchworth remain accessible for day use, but overnight RV camping in the area effectively pauses from late October until spring thaw. Lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario can arrive quickly from November onward.

How to book a site
Private campgrounds near Lima, including Conesus Lake Campground, Bristol Woodlands Campground, Creek-N-Wood RV Park and Campground, Tamarack Campgrounds, and Holiday Hill Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and the July 4 holiday fill first, so lock in dates several months out.
For state parks like Letchworth, reservations go through the New York State Parks system on ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance. Sites become available at the 9-month window at the following times: March 15 - Labor Day: 8AM Monday - Friday, 9AM Saturday and Sunday. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites.
What to expect on arrival
Private parks in the Lima area typically offer 30 and 50 amp hookups, water, sewer or dump stations, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. Sites range from open pull-throughs to shaded back-ins, and many include playgrounds, pools, and organized weekend activities aimed at families.
At Letchworth, sites are wooded and generally shaded. The campground offers tent and trailer sites with electrical hookups, both 30 and 50 amp options depending on site selection. There are water spigots, restrooms with showers, and a dump station available, though sites do not have individual water or sewer hookups.
Quiet hours and generator windows are posted at each park. New York enforces a firewood rule: do not bring untreated wood more than 50 miles from its source.

On RVezy, most travel trailers in the Lima area run roughly $100 to $175 per night, while Class C motorhomes typically range from $200 to $325 per night, with larger Class A coaches at the top end. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lima,%20New%20YorkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lima, NY?
Good news: your regular New York State driver's license (or any standard U.S. or Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Lima, NY. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required for Class A, B, or C motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels on RVezy. You'll just need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the platform when you book. Visiting from overseas? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club, usually under $20. That's it: confirm your booking, meet your host in Livingston County for the walkthrough, and hit Route 5 & 20 toward the Finger Lakes.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-driver-licenseIs my Lima, NY RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every booking on RVezy in Lima, NY includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull out of the driveway with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout based on how much financial protection you want. It is designed specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals and removes the biggest worry first-time renters have. Pro tip: if you are heading into Letchworth State Park's winding gorge roads or planning a longer Finger Lakes loop, the upper-tier plan keeps your out-of-pocket exposure low and your trip stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Lima, NY plans change?
You can book with confidence: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and there is a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, your refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel, which you will see clearly before you confirm payment. If a host cancels your booking, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits. Since Lima sits in lake-effect snow territory and shoulder-season storms can roll in off Lake Ontario, this flexibility matters. Pro tip: book earlier rather than later for summer weekends at Letchworth or Watkins Glen, knowing you have a clear path to adjust if life changes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lima, NY?
Absolutely. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Lima, NY: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see every dog-welcoming rig in Livingston County. New York State Parks, including nearby Letchworth and Stony Brook, allow up to two leashed pets at most campsites as long as you bring vaccination records and clean up after them. Letchworth even has dog-friendly trails along the gorge rim. Pro tip: tell your host the breed and size when you request, and ask about their cleaning expectations upfront. Then plan a stop along Letchworth's Highbanks area, where your pup can take in dramatic gorge views right alongside you.
parks.ny.gov/documents/parks/PetsInParks.pdfCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Lima, NY?
Yes, RV delivery in Lima, NY is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game changer if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the motorhome straight to your campsite at Letchworth State Park, Hamlin Beach, Conesus Lake, or even a private property, then level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system. You just show up and start your trip. Delivery fees are usually based on distance from Lima, with most hosts charging a per-mile rate. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on the listing page, then message hosts with your campground name so they can quote you accurately.
parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworthHow far can I drive on a typical Lima, NY RV trip?
You can cover a lot of ground on a Lima, NY RV trip thanks to the town's central spot off I-390 and Routes 5 & 20. From Lima you are about 25 minutes to Rochester, two hours to Niagara Falls, 75 minutes to Buffalo, 45 minutes to Letchworth State Park, and about an hour to Canandaigua and Seneca Lake wine country. Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and some listing RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for bigger Finger Lakes loops. Pro tip: sketch your route before you book and message the host with total miles so they can confirm or include an unlimited add-on.
dot.ny.gov/indexWhere are the best campgrounds near Lima, NY?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Lima, NY include Letchworth State Park (about 45 minutes southwest) with hundreds of electric RV sites along the Genesee River gorge; Letchworth Valley Campground & RV Resort in Castile, with full-hookup sites and lake access; Hamlin Beach State Park on Lake Ontario (about an hour north) for sandy beaches and electric sites; Conesus Lake area campgrounds for fishing and boating; and the Rochester / Hamlin KOA Holiday for full hookups and family amenities. All are well-suited for RV camping in the Lima, NY area. Pro tip: Letchworth's Highbanks Campground fills up fastest for fall foliage weekends, so reserve as early as you can.
parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworth/camping.aspxWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Lima, NY?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for a motorhome rental in Lima, with summer highs in the upper 70s to low 80s F and overnight lows in the 50s and 60s, perfect for grilling by the gorge. June and early July bring lush green forests; late September into mid-October delivers the Finger Lakes' world-class fall foliage, with daytime temps in the 60s. Winters are cold and snowy (lows around 15-20 F with lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario), but a winter RV trip in Lima, NY can be magical if your rig is winterized and you have shore power. Pro tip: book peak-foliage weekends (early October) 4-6 months out: they sell out faster than summer.
weather.gov/buf/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Lima, NY?
You've got this. First time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, especially around Lima, where rural Livingston County roads, Routes 5 & 20, and I-390 are wide and well-maintained. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, propane, water, and waste systems, so you're never left guessing. Campervans and Class B rigs drive much like a large van, while Class C motorhomes (20-30 feet) are the most popular first-timer choice for the Finger Lakes. Pro tip: choose a smaller travel trailer or Class C for your first trip, and ask your host about delivery so you can skip the driving altogether and have it set up at your campsite.
dmv.ny.gov/more-info/drivers-manual-and-study-materialsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my trip from Lima?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on Route 36, a dead battery at Letchworth's Highbanks Campground, or run out of fuel heading toward Watkins Glen, one phone call gets help dispatched to your location. Towing, jump-starts, lockout service, and tire changes are all covered. Your host is also typically just a text away for quick questions about quirks specific to their rig. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and the roadside number to your phone before you leave Lima, and your trip stays smooth no matter what.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Lima, NY RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome, and many guests use Lima as a launchpad for an RV road trip from Lima, NY into Pennsylvania (about 90 minutes south to the Allegheny National Forest), Vermont, or further down the East Coast. Canada trips, including over the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls into Ontario, depend on the individual host and protection plan, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: bring your passport for any Canadian crossing, and ask your host for the RV's registration and proof of coverage paperwork to keep in the glovebox.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?
Budget realistically and you will cruise happy. Most Class C motorhomes around Lima get 8-10 miles per gallon on gas, Class A's about 6-8 mpg, and a truck or SUV pulling a travel trailer roughly 10-13 mpg. New York gas prices typically average around $3.30-$3.70 per gallon, with stations along I-390 and Routes 5 & 20 being the most convenient fill-ups out of Lima. For a 4-night Finger Lakes loop covering roughly 400 miles, expect about $150-$220 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Avon or Geneseo before heading into Letchworth, where the nearest gas is a short drive from the campground.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lima, NY?
Earlier is better, but you have options. New York State Parks (including Letchworth, Stony Brook, and Hamlin Beach) accept reservations up to 9 months in advance through the official ReserveAmerica system, and the most coveted gorge-view sites at Letchworth's Highbanks Campground disappear within hours when peak summer and fall-foliage weekends open. For private parks like Letchworth Valley Campground & RV Resort or the Rochester / Hamlin KOA, 1-3 months ahead is usually plenty. Pro tip: if you miss your first-choice weekend, set up a cancellation alert; New York sites cancel often, and a perfect Highbanks spot can open up days before your trip.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Lima, NY?
Driving an RV around Lima is refreshingly mellow. Lima sits at the crossroads of Routes 5 & 20 and Route 15A with wide shoulders, gentle terrain, and light traffic outside of Rochester rush hour. Watch for lake-effect snow squalls from November through March (the Buffalo-to-Rochester corridor can whiteout fast), and use the I-390 detour rather than narrow back roads if you're in a Class A. Letchworth's Park Road has tight curves and steep grades approaching the gorge overlooks, so take it slow. Pro tip: check 511ny.org for real-time road conditions and construction before you roll out, especially during winter or early-spring thaws when potholes are at their worst.
511ny.org/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Lima, NY?
You will find everything from primitive to full-hookup options. New York State Parks like Letchworth offer electric hookups (no water or sewer at the site), flush-toilet bathhouses with hot showers, a centralized dump station, and potable water fill stations near campground entrances. Private parks such as Letchworth Valley Campground & RV Resort and the Rochester / Hamlin KOA typically offer 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer at the site, plus laundry, Wi-Fi, and pools. Most parks near Lima have firewood for sale on-site (do not bring your own; New York has firewood transport rules to limit emerald ash borer). Pro tip: dump and refill at Letchworth's station before heading to a state park site with no hookups so you start your stay tanks-empty and water-full.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's included inside a typical RV rental in Lima, NY?
More than you'd think. Most RVs listed in Lima come fully equipped: queen or king beds with linens (often included or available as an add-on), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, and dishes, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with both furnace and roof A/C, a dinette, and seatbelted seating for 4-7 people depending on size. Class C and larger rigs usually have a TV and many include a generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi varies: cell signal is solid around Lima and most of the Finger Lakes but spotty deep in Letchworth's gorge. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities tab and confirm with your host whether linens, kitchen kit, and outdoor chairs are included or paid add-ons.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Lima offer plenty of ways to customize. Common add-ons include linen and towel packages ($25-$75), kitchen kits, camping chairs and outdoor rugs, generators, bike racks, fire-pit gear, and even pre-stocked groceries. For pickup, you can meet the host at their location in Lima or nearby Avon, Honeoye Falls, or Geneseo, or pay for delivery to your campsite. Mileage policies are set per listing: many include 100-150 free miles per night, with extras at $0.30-$0.50 per mile, and some advertise truly unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator if you are heading into Letchworth's no-hookup loops; it costs a bit more but turns the trip into pure vacation mode.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lima,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy's platform with a credit or debit card when you book; never pay your host outside the system, since doing so voids your protection plan. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip, separate from your booking payment, as long as the rig comes back in the same condition. To avoid deposit issues, take time-stamped photos of the interior and exterior at pickup and again at dropoff. Pro tip: return the RV clean, with tanks dumped and fuel topped up to the level shown at pickup, and your full deposit lands back on your card without a hitch.
