Manchester camping overview
Manchester sits in Ontario County in the heart of New York's Finger Lakes region, just north of Canandaigua Lake and a short drive from the Erie Canal corridor. The town works well as an RV base for travelers exploring wineries, farm country, and Rochester, which lies about 30 miles to the northwest. Interstate 90 (the New York State Thruway) passes just south of town, giving big rigs straightforward access from both east and west.
Campgrounds in the immediate area lean toward private, family-run RV parks with full hookups rather than state-park facilities. Options within a short drive include Canandaigua / Rochester KOA Holiday in nearby Farmington, Twilight on the Erie RV Resort along the canal, Creek-N-Wood RV Park and Campground, Whispering Winds RV and Fun Center, and Cheerful Valley Campgrounds in Phelps. Most operate seasonally from spring through mid-fall, matching the region's warm-weather camping window.
Things to do near Manchester
The Finger Lakes wine trails are the headline draw, with Canandaigua, Seneca, and Keuka Lake routes all reachable as day trips. Canandaigua Lake itself, about 10 miles south, offers boat and kayak rentals, swimming, and lakeside dining in the town of Canandaigua. Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park runs guided visits from mid-May through mid-October and is a common stop for RV travelers based nearby.
Cyclists and walkers use the Erie Canalway Trail, which passes within about 10 miles of Manchester and runs flat along the historic canal towpath. Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack sits in Farmington, and the Rochester museums, ballparks, and Lake Ontario shoreline are all within an hour's drive.

The practical RV season around Manchester runs from mid-April through mid-October, and most private campgrounds in the area follow that window. Cheerful Valley Campgrounds, for example, publishes an April 15 to October 15 season, with actual open and close dates flexing a little based on weather. Shoulder months on either end can be quiet and cool, with overnight lows near or below freezing well into May and returning again in October.
July and August are the peak booking months, driven by warm lake weather, wine-trail traffic, and family vacations. Holiday weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill earliest, and KOA's Canandaigua / Rochester location typically sees holiday weekends booked far ahead. September brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and grape-harvest activity across the Finger Lakes, making it a favored time for adult travelers. Winter camping is not a realistic option locally, as most parks close and lake-effect snow is common from November into April.

Booking campgrounds near Manchester
Campgrounds around Manchester are privately operated, so reservations go through each park's own website or phone line rather than a state or federal portal. Canandaigua / Rochester KOA Holiday takes bookings through koa.com and its office at 1-800-562-0533, and applies KOA's standard cancellation policy along with tighter rules for holiday weekends and stays of a week or more. Cheerful Valley Campgrounds books directly at 315-781-1222 or through its website.
For peak summer weekends, especially the July 4 and Labor Day holidays, booking several months out is prudent, and popular sites at the KOA are often reserved close to a year ahead. Midweek stays in June or September are usually available on shorter notice.
What to expect at Manchester campgrounds
Expect private, family-run RV parks rather than large resort complexes or public campgrounds. Sites are typically back-in or pull-through with 30- and 50-amp electric, water, and either full sewer hookups or a central dump station. The Canandaigua / Rochester KOA offers pull-throughs up to about 100 feet, deluxe patio sites, cabins, a swimming pool open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, and fiber Wi-Fi. Cheerful Valley has grass sites, a pool, a river for fishing, and a mix of transient and seasonal campers.
Cell coverage is generally solid along the I-90 corridor. Big rigs are welcome at the KOA, though some sites at smaller parks can be tight.

Cross-border trips to Canada may be possible, and the border is only about 2.5 hours from Manchester via the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge or Peace Bridge in Buffalo. Message the host before booking to confirm they allow Canadian travel and to arrange any required documentation. Bring your passport (or enhanced license), pet vaccination records, and written permission from the host for the border officer. Popular Canadian routes from Manchester include Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries and Toronto, about 3.5 hours away.
