Campgrounds and RV parks near North Ballston Spa, NY

Saratoga Springs is the main draw, with the historic thoroughbred race course, Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), Saratoga Spa State Park, and a walkable downtown with restaurants and shops. Racing season runs from mid-July through Labor Day and pulls large crowds, and SPAC hosts concerts and residencies from the New York City Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra through summer. For outdoor activity, Moreau Lake State Park offers a swimming beach, boat rentals, over forty miles of hiking and biking trails, and a nature center. Lake George is about a thirty-minute drive north for boat tours, beaches, and Adirondack hiking. Families can also fish and paddle on the ponds at private resorts, and Grant Cottage State Historic Site is a short detour.

The RV season in this part of upstate New York is short and concentrated. Most private campgrounds around Ballston Spa operate from May through mid-October, with Alpine Lake RV Resort running from May 1 (weather dependent) through Columbus Day. Moreau Lake State Park's 2026 camping season runs from May 18 through November 1, with Loops B and E closing after early September. July and August are the busiest months by a wide margin. Saratoga's thoroughbred meet and the SPAC concert schedule fill nearby campgrounds on weekends, and holiday weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day book out early. Late spring and early fall are quieter, cooler, and better suited to hiking and fishing, with fall foliage typically peaking in early to mid-October. Winter closes most private RV parks. Cabins and cottages remain available at some sites, and Moreau Lake State Park stays open for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing, but full RV camping is not practical in the region from December through March.

Most private RV parks in the area are wooded, family-oriented resorts with full hookups (20/30/50 amp), water, sewer, and Wi-Fi at premium sites, plus pools, playgrounds, and planned weekend activities. Sites range from open pull-throughs suitable for larger rigs to shaded back-ins under pine cover. Roads within older resorts can be narrow, so measure your rig and ask about site access if you are towing a longer trailer. Moreau Lake State Park is dry camping with no hookups, though the park has a dump station, potable water, and 24-hour comfort stations with hot showers in every loop. New York restricts moving untreated firewood more than 50 miles, so plan to buy wood locally. Cell service is generally good in the Ballston Spa and Saratoga corridor and weaker in the surrounding Adirondack foothills.
