Camping near St. John Fisher University
St. John Fisher University sits in Pittsford, a suburb about six miles southeast of Rochester, New York. The campus sits on the western edge of the Finger Lakes region, which places RV travelers within easy reach of glacial lakes, waterfall gorges, and the Erie Canal corridor. Most nearby campgrounds cluster to the east and south of Rochester along Route 96, the New York State Thruway (I-90), and Canandaigua Lake.
Options range from canal-side RV parks to wooded hillside campgrounds. Twilight on the Erie RV Resort sits along the historic Erie Canal and bike path, with full hook-ups, 30/50 amp service, pull-thru and back-in sites, tent sites, and cabins. Creek-N-Wood RV Park and Campground and the Canandaigua / Rochester KOA Holiday give travelers a full-service base close to wineries and the lake. Bristol Woodlands Campground and Conesus Lake Campground push further south into the hills and lakes country.
Rochester itself is a short drive away for groceries, dump stations, propane, and RV service, which makes the area practical for both quick weekend trips and longer Finger Lakes tours.
Things to do near St. John Fisher University
The Erie Canalway Trail runs directly past the northern campgrounds and is flat, easy for family biking, and popular with anglers and paddlers. Guests at Twilight on the Erie can bike or paddle the canal, fish an on-site pond, and swim in the resort pool. Canandaigua Lake, roughly 25 miles south of campus, offers boat and kayak rentals, a public beach, and lakefront dining in the town of Canandaigua.
Day trips reach farther into the Finger Lakes. Watkins Glen State Park is the most famous of the Finger Lakes state parks, where the gorge trail passes 19 waterfalls beneath 200-foot cliffs. The Canandaigua and Seneca wine trails, Bristol Mountain, and the George Eastman Museum in Rochester round out common family stops.

The camping season around Rochester is short and clearly defined. Twilight on the Erie RV Resort operates from mid-April to mid-October, and Bristol Woodlands Campground runs a similar May-through-October season. Nearby New York state park campgrounds follow the same general pattern, with most Finger Lakes sites open from mid-May to mid-October. Winter RV camping options are very limited.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring the warmest weather, the busiest weekends around the lakes, and the most on-site programming at family campgrounds. Late spring and early fall are quieter, with cool nights and better site availability, though some amenities like pools may already be closed.
Fall brings foliage across the Bristol Hills and Finger Lakes. Rochester has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold, snowy winters, with precipitation spread fairly evenly through the year and heavy lake-effect snowfall in winter, so shoulder-season trips should plan for rain and cold snaps.

How to book near St. John Fisher University
Private campgrounds in the area take direct online reservations. The Canandaigua / Rochester KOA Holiday books through the KOA site and reservation line, with standard KOA cancellation notice for RV and tent sites and longer notice required for cabins and holiday weekends. Twilight on the Erie, Bristol Woodlands, Creek-N-Wood, and Conesus Lake all accept online or phone bookings through their own operator websites.
For New York state park campgrounds in the Finger Lakes, the primary platform is ReserveAmerica, which manages reservations for state-operated campgrounds. Online and phone reservations can be made up to nine months in advance on a rolling window. Popular summer weekends fill early, so book as soon as the nine-month window opens.
What to expect near St. John Fisher University
Sites near St. John Fisher University lean toward full-service private campgrounds rather than backcountry. Expect full hook-ups with 30/50 amp service, pull-thru or back-in options, and family amenities like pools, playgrounds, and camp stores. Bristol Woodlands offers full-hookup RV sites with 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer, plus a dump station, bath houses, a swimming pool, a playground, fire pits, and picnic tables.
Terrain varies. Canal-side parks are flat and easy to level, while the Bristol Hills sit at higher elevation with wooded, rolling ground. Cell service is generally reliable near Rochester and Canandaigua, thinner in the hills.
Pets are typically welcome on leash. Firewood should be bought locally, since New York enforces do-not-move-firewood rules to protect against invasive pests.

No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy will verify your ID through the platform during booking. During checkout you will choose your level of coverage, which helps protect against accidental damage to the vehicle so you can hit the road with peace of mind. Combined with around-the-clock roadside help, a flat tire on the Thruway or a hiccup at Letchworth State Park is a phone call away from being solved, not a trip-ender.

Booking is genuinely low-risk. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, which includes a grace period after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Specific refund details depend on how far out you cancel and circumstances like severe weather, all clearly outlined on the RVezy site before you confirm. If a Rochester snowstorm rolls in or your plans shift, you have options. Pro tip: book early to secure the best rigs near St. John Fisher University for graduation weekend or Finger Lakes wine festival season, knowing the policy is transparent if life changes.

Most Finger Lakes state park campgrounds allow leashed pets too. Pack vaccination records, a long leash, and a collapsible water bowl, and your pup is set for the trip.
monroecounty.gov/parks-mendonpondsCan the RV be delivered to me near St. John Fisher University?
Yes, RV delivery in Pittsford is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters and families visiting students at St. John Fisher University. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer right to your campground or a family driveway, then handle leveling, hookups, and a full walkthrough before they leave. Use the Delivery filter when searching to see hosts who offer it and their delivery radius (some cover all of Monroe County and out to Hamlin Beach or Letchworth). It is the easiest way to skip towing stress entirely and start your trip relaxed.

Niagara Falls is about 90 miles west (under 2 hours), Watkins Glen State Park sits roughly 75 miles south, Letchworth State Park (the 'Grand Canyon of the East') is just 45 miles southwest, the Adirondacks are about 4 hours northeast, and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario is around 2.5 hours away if you bring a passport. parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworth/details.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near St. John Fisher University?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near St. John Fisher University include Hamlin Beach State Park (about 35 minutes north on Lake Ontario, with hundreds of electric sites and a sandy beach), Webster Park (15 minutes north, with electric hookups and lakefront access), Rochester / Hamlin KOA, Southwoods RV Resort in Byron, and Letchworth State Park (45 minutes southwest, with stunning gorge views). All accept RVs and most offer dump stations and potable water fill. Pro tip: state park sites in New York book up fast for July and August weekends, so reserve as soon as you confirm your RV rental in Pittsford.
parks.ny.gov/parks/hamlinbeachWhen is the best time to visit Pittsford in an RV?
Late May through early October is prime time for RV camping in Pittsford, with the sweet spot being June through early September when daytime highs sit comfortably in the mid 70s to mid 80s°F and overnight lows stay in the 50s and 60s. September is a local insider favorite: the Finger Lakes wineries are harvesting, crowds thin out at Letchworth, and bug pressure drops dramatically. October brings spectacular fall foliage but cooler nights (40s°F), so look for a rig with a working furnace. Most area campgrounds operate seasonally from mid-April to late October, so plan your Pittsford RV trip within that window for the easiest experience.
weather.gov/buf/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and you won't be on your own. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking through driving tips, hookups, the generator, slide-outs, and the dump process so nothing is a mystery. First time renting an RV around Rochester? Start with a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan, both drive much like a large van. Message the host before booking with any questions, that's exactly what the platform is built for. Pro tip: practice with a short loop on Route 31 or I-490 before heading out to Letchworth or the Thruway, and you'll feel confident in 20 minutes.
dmv.ny.gov/about-dmv/chapter-11-defensive-drivingWhat happens if I break down during my trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so whether you have a flat on I-90 outside Rochester, a dead battery at Hamlin Beach State Park, or a tow situation on a back road near Naples, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also just a message away for quick questions about the rig, and the RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Pittsford and small issues stay small.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Pittsford RV rental into Canada?
In many cases, yes, a cross-border RV road trip from Pittsford to Niagara Falls, Ontario or Toronto is a popular bucket-list run (the border at Lewiston-Queenston is just 90 miles west). Cross-border travel depends on the individual host and their insurance, so message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm Canada is allowed on that specific rig. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Bring a valid passport for every traveler, declare any food/alcohol at the border, and you're set. Pro tip: a long weekend hitting Niagara Falls State Park on the U.S. side then crossing for the Canadian view is a classic 3-day loop.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripHow much should I budget for fuel on a Pittsford RV trip?
Fuel is easier to budget than you'd think. Around Rochester, regular gas typically runs close to the New York state average (often $3.30-$3.80 per gallon), and most Class C motorhomes return 8-12 MPG while campervans like a Class B can hit 16-20 MPG. For a 4-day loop covering roughly 400 miles (Pittsford to Letchworth to Watkins Glen and back), expect around $130-$180 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: top off at Costco in Rochester or at travel plazas on the I-90 Thruway where prices tend to be lower than smaller Finger Lakes towns, and fuel up before climbing the hills south toward Naples.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Pittsford?
For New York state parks like Letchworth, Hamlin Beach, and Watkins Glen, book through ReserveAmerica/New York State Parks as soon as your RV rental in Pittsford is locked in. Summer weekend sites at Letchworth and Hamlin Beach often fill 6-8 weeks ahead, and the system opens reservations up to 9 months in advance. Private parks like Canandaigua-Rochester KOA and Southwoods RV Resort are slightly more forgiving but still book up for July 4, Labor Day, and fall foliage weekends. Midweek? You can often find availability just days out. Pro tip: if you strike out on a weekend, check Sunday-Wednesday stays, prices drop and the campgrounds feel half-empty.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What are the driving conditions like around Pittsford and Rochester?
Driving an RV around Pittsford is refreshingly manageable. The roads near St. John Fisher University (Route 31, Route 96, I-490) are wide and well-maintained, and I-90 (the New York State Thruway) gives you flat, easy highway access east to Syracuse and west to Buffalo. Watch for the lake-effect snow belt south of Lake Ontario from November through March, low bridges along the Erie Canal towpath roads (some under 11 feet), and rolling hills with steeper grades heading down to the Finger Lakes around Naples and Watkins Glen. Avoid downtown Rochester's Inner Loop during rush hour with a big rig. Otherwise, this is one of the friendlier RV driving regions in the Northeast.
thruway.ny.gov/travelers/index.htmlCan I rent an RV in winter near Rochester, NY?
Yes, winter RV rental in Pittsford is possible, and it can be a serious adventure if you're into snowshoeing at Mendon Ponds, skiing at Bristol Mountain (45 minutes south), or chasing the frozen falls at Letchworth. Look for an RV with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a propane furnace, and message the host to confirm it's rated for sub-freezing use. Most public campgrounds close late October to mid-April, so you'll typically need a private park with winter hookups or a private property stay with shore power. Pro tip: keep tanks closed until dumping, use heated water hoses, and you'll stay cozy even when Rochester hits the teens.
weather.gov/buf/winterweatherWhat amenities do campgrounds near Pittsford typically offer?
Most campgrounds near Pittsford come well-equipped for RVs. New York state parks like Hamlin Beach and Letchworth offer electric hookups (20/30/50 amp at many sites), potable water fill stations, dump stations, hot showers, and flush toilets, though full sewer hookups at the site are rare in state parks. Private parks like Canandaigua-Rochester KOA and Southwoods RV Resort typically provide full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, and camp stores. Dump stations are available at most state parks for a small fee even if you didn't camp there. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving the campground, and you'll be set for off-grid stops at Finger Lakes overlooks.
parks.ny.gov/parks/letchworth/maps.aspxWhat is typically included inside a Pittsford RV rental?
You will be pleasantly surprised at how stocked these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Pittsford comes with a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette/sofa beds (sleeping 4-7), a full kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control, seatbelts for every passenger, and often a TV. Many hosts include a generator for off-grid power, and some offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on. Campervan rental in Pittsford (Class B) is more compact but still includes a bed, kitchenette, and often a wet bath. Check the listing amenity list and message the host with any must-haves before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pittsford,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in the Pittsford area typically offer helpful add-ons like camp chairs, outdoor grills, bedding/linen packages, kitchen kits, bike racks, generators, and Wi-Fi hotspots, each with a clear flat fee shown on the listing. Pickup is usually at the host home, often within 20 minutes of St. John Fisher University, but RV delivery in Pittsford is widely offered if you would rather have the rig brought to you (delivery fees scale with distance). Mileage policies vary by host, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage packages. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a linen kit on your first family RV trip in Pittsford and you will arrive to a fully made-up rig, ready to roll.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pittsford,%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and entirely through the RVezy platform, with no cash to the host. You will pay the rental total (nightly rate, fees, chosen add-ons, and protection plan) when you book using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately before your trip starts and is released back to your card after a smooth return, typically within a few days. To avoid issues: do the pre-trip walkthrough carefully, take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, and return the RV on time with the agreed fuel and tank levels. It is the easy, transparent way to rent an RV in Pittsford.
