Campgrounds and RV parks near Walworth, NY

The Erie Canalway Trail runs directly through the area and is the anchor activity for most visitors. The Canal Park at Lock 30 in Macedon offers picnic areas, a boat ramp, a playground, and the Butterfly Trail, and it provides opportunities to walk, cycle, and paddle along the historic waterway. Macedon is one of the few locations in New York where multiple historical alignments of the Erie Canal can be seen side by side. Families base at Canandaigua / Rochester KOA Holiday for pool access, jump pads, and a stocked fishing pond that is a hit with kids. Whispering Winds RV and Fun Center adds mini-golf and other on-site recreation for family groups. Day trips reach Rochester museums, Sodus Point beaches on Lake Ontario, Canandaigua Lake, and Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua. Fishing, kayaking, and cycling dominate the warm-season itinerary.

The camping season around Walworth is compressed. Most private campgrounds in the area operate seasonally, typically from mid-April through late October, and winter camping options are very limited, with the majority of facilities closing completely during the coldest months. Twilight on the Erie RV Resort generally operates from mid-April through late October, which is typical for the region. The Erie Canal navigation season aligns with this window. The New York State Canal Corporation offers Cycler-Hiker-Boater campsites along the Canalway Trail and canal waterways during the navigation season, which generally runs from May into October. Boaters transiting the canal need to plan around lock hours during this same period. July and August are the busiest weeks for private RV parks, and holiday weekends fill first. Weekend spots go quickly during summer, especially at parks with pools and family amenities. Spring and fall bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and, in autumn, strong Finger Lakes foliage. Winter travel means relying on hotels or the small number of year-round parks in the region.

Terrain around Walworth is rolling farmland with wooded pockets and canal cuts. The region sits in the glacially formed landscape between Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes, at a few hundred feet above sea level. Expect grassy or gravel sites at private parks, with mature trees at some pull-throughs. Site quality varies. Many parks in the area have natural, uneven surfaces, so extra leveling blocks are worth bringing, particularly for motorcoaches. Long-term seasonal campers occupy many prime spots at private parks, which can make peak-summer transient reservations harder to secure. Summer humidity is high, mosquitoes are active near the canal at dusk, and cell coverage is generally reliable across Wayne and Monroe counties. Groceries, propane, and RV supplies are available in Macedon, Fairport, and Webster.
