Campgrounds and RV parks near Willsboro, NY

Lake Champlain drives most of the activity. Boat launches at Willsboro Bay and nearby Westport open access to bass, pike, salmon, and trout fishing, and a reciprocal licensing agreement covers much of the lake for anglers with either a New York or Vermont license. Kayaking, sailing, and swimming are all straightforward from town or from Noblewood Park at the mouth of the Boquet River. On land, visitors can hike Rattlesnake Mountain, birdwatch along the shoreline, or drive about a half-hour north to AuSable Chasm for rafting, tubing, guided hikes, and an Adventure Trail with via-ferrata sections. Families often add the Essex-Charlotte ferry across to Vermont, the Shelburne Museum, and Adirondack High Peaks trailheads west of town to the itinerary.

The camping season runs roughly from mid-to-late May through mid-October. Button Bay State Park operates from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through the second Monday in October, and most private campgrounds in the immediate area, including Magic Pines Family Campground, follow a similar late-spring to mid-fall window. AuSable Chasm Campground operates spring through fall alongside the AuSable Chasm attraction itself, and Shelburne Camping Area on the Vermont side keeps a slightly longer season with limited spring and fall availability. Summer is peak. July and August bring warm days, long daylight, and full campgrounds, especially on weekends and around Independence Day. Weekday arrivals and shoulder-season trips see more site availability. Fall is short but scenic. The Adirondack forests just west of Lake Champlain produce strong foliage color, with peak typically arriving from late September through mid-October. Winter closes most private campgrounds and Vermont state park camping, though ice fishing and snow sports continue in the area.

Site types vary widely. AuSable Chasm Campground handles everything from tents to big rigs with 50-amp service, and includes a pool, playground, shuffleboard, basketball, volleyball, and disc golf, plus more than 25 miles of mountain biking trails set aside for campers. Shelburne Camping Area features full electric, sewer, cable, and water hookups for RVs and travel trailers, plus wooded sites for tent campers. Vermont state park sites are more rustic. Button Bay offers 4 rental cabins, 53 tent and RV sites, 13 lean-tos, restrooms with flush toilets, hot showers, a swimming pool, boat launch, and nature center, along with an RV sanitary station but no hookups. Cell service is generally reliable near town and along the lake but drops off in the interior Adirondacks. Black bears are present in the region, so store food securely at any site.
