Campgrounds and RV parks near Barker Ten Mile, NC

Paddling is the headline activity in the area. The Lumber River earned federal designation as a National Wild and Scenic River, the only blackwater river in the state to have that honor, and the Princess Ann access highlights include Griffin's Whirl, paddle-in camping, a walk-in group camping area, a boat ramp, and a picnic shelter, making it a strong base for day trips or overnight floats. On land, families can walk the nature trail at Lumberton / I-95 KOA Journey, cool off in its pool, or use the campground as a jumping-off point for coastal day trips. Wrightsville Beach sits under two hours east, Oak Island is a similar drive, and Topsail, Kure and Surf City beaches are also within range. Closer in, downtown Lumberton has a riverwalk, and Robeson County offers small museums, farmers' markets and short driving routes through the Sandhills.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of southeastern North Carolina. March through May brings mild days and blooming longleaf pine understory, and September through November delivers cooler nights and lower humidity after the summer peak. Summer is hot and humid. July averages a high of 91°F with lows around 71°F, and August is the wettest month, averaging roughly 6 inches of precipitation. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from June through August, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in August and September. Robeson County has flooded during past tropical systems, so RV travelers should track forecasts closely in late summer. Winter camping is possible. January is the coldest month, with an average low near 36°F, freezes occur but measurable snow is rare, and state park campsites at Princess Ann remain bookable through the cooler months. Bugs drop off, and the blackwater river tends to run clear.

Interstate-corridor parks in this area are built for utility. Lumberton / I-95 KOA Journey offers level pull-thru RV sites with full 50/30-amp service and Wi-Fi, plus a pool, laundry and dump station. Highway noise is a trade-off for the convenience of the I-95 location. Spacious Skies Sandy Run sits in a pine grove near I-95 with a fishing pond and nearby trail. Lake Waldos Beach Campground and Camp Pedro are quieter, smaller operations better suited to shorter rigs and travelers who value space over amenities. At Princess Ann, expect a rustic experience: tent and small-RV sites, a bathhouse, and strict park rules. Alcoholic beverages, firearms and other weapons are prohibited, pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet, posted quiet hours are enforced, and building fires in undesignated areas is prohibited. Campers should bring their own firewood, since supply available to pick up on the ground is limited.
