Campgrounds and RV parks near Belville, NC

The area is built around water. Visitors typically split time between the Cape Fear Riverwalk in downtown Wilmington, the Battleship North Carolina, and the beaches at Wrightsville, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and Oak Island. Wrightsville Beach offers surfing, paddleboarding, and swimming, historic downtown Wilmington has riverfront dining and museums along the Cape Fear River, and Fort Fisher State Recreation Area provides public beach access and Civil War history. Located in New Hanover County 12 miles south of Wilmington, Carolina Beach State Park is home to the Venus flytrap, a unique carnivorous plant. The park is known for habitats like Sugarloaf Dune, a 50-foot dune that once served as a navigational marker for river pilots, as well as three limesink ponds that each feature a unique plant community. Fishing piers, charter boats, and the Fort Fisher-Southport ferry are all within easy reach.

Wilmington experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and cool winters. The area is wet overall, with a moderate pattern of wetter summers, where heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms can occur. Despite the high annual precipitation, snowfall is typically light. Summer is peak season for coastal camping, but it is also the wettest and most humid stretch, and afternoon storms are routine. Spring and fall deliver the most comfortable temperatures for RV travel, with warm days, cooler nights, and lower humidity. Winter is mild by regional standards and remains viable for RV trips, as many private parks stay open year-round and offer monthly rates for snowbirds. Overnight lows can dip to freezing on the coldest nights from late fall into early spring, so cold-weather setup precautions are worth planning for. Hurricane risk is the key seasonal factor on this coast. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, and early September marks the climatological peak. Trips in August, September, and early October should be planned with flexible dates and evacuation awareness.

Sites in the immediate Belville and Wilmington corridor tend to be wooded, flat, and set up for larger rigs, though older parks may have tighter interior roads. The state park's family campground is located in a wooded area near Snow's Cut. The campground has a bathhouse with toilets and hot showers available to all campers. There are also potable water spigots and trash and recycling bins around the campground loop for campers to use. Firewood is available for purchase at the visitor center or marina store. Mosquitoes can be intense during warmer months, particularly in early fall when they bite through clothing. Bug spray, citronella candles, and thermocell devices become essential gear. The front gate is closed and locked at posted closing times, and there is no exiting or entering the gate after this time. Pets are broadly welcome. Pets are allowed at Carolina Beach State Park campsites but not inside buildings or camper cabins, and must be on an attended leash of no longer than 6 feet at all times. Most area campgrounds are pet friendly, though an extra fee or a designated area may apply.
