Campgrounds and RV parks near Ellerbe, NC

Day trips from Ellerbe cover a wide mix of terrain. Morrow Mountain State Park offers hiking on the ancient Uwharrie ridges, boating and fishing on Lake Tillery and the Yadkin/Pee Dee River, and horseback trails. Sycamore Lodge Resort keeps kids busy on site with a swimming pool and hot tub, a stocked lake for catch-and-release fishing, mini golf, a playground, and a game room. Cheraw State Park, roughly forty minutes south, centres on 360-acre Lake Juniper with kayak and canoe rentals, a lakeside boardwalk for fishing, and an eighteen-hole Tom Jackson championship golf course laid out through the pines. The Cheraw course has undergone extended renovation closures in recent seasons, so confirm status with the pro shop before planning a golf trip. The Uwharrie National Forest, the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, and the Pinehurst golf complex are all within a reasonable drive.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Ellerbe area. March through May brings warming days, wildflower bloom in the Uwharries, and lower humidity than midsummer. September through early November delivers cooler nights, thinner crowds after Labor Day, and drier campsites once late-season tropical systems pass. Summer is hot and humid, with July highs averaging near 91°F and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. State park loops and private resort pools stay busy on weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Holiday weekends at North Carolina state parks carry a two-night minimum on Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday bookings, dropping to one night if reserved within fourteen days of arrival. Late summer and early fall carry a tropical storm and hurricane risk that can push heavy rain inland from the Carolina coast. Winter is short and cool rather than harsh. Daytime highs generally sit in the low 50s, snowfall is minimal, and both Morrow Mountain and Cheraw remain open year-round for camping, though some amenities like swim areas close in the off-season.

Sites in this region are mostly wooded, with shade from pines, sycamores, dogwoods, oaks, and magnolias. Sycamore Lodge Resort spans more than 175 shaded sites across 194 acres, with full-hookup RV sites, cabins, a bathhouse, a general store, a swimming pool and hot tub, and a stocked lake. Morrow Mountain State Park has three camping loops on rolling Piedmont terrain, mixing primitive tent sites with electric sites. Some sites can be tight to level, and campers may hear occasional military aircraft overhead. Cheraw State Park's campground has 17 sites on packed gravel with individual water and electric, two full-hookup sites, pull-throughs to 40 feet, back-ins to 34 feet, six waterfront sites on Lake Juniper, and a dump station. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the main roads and thinner deep inside state park loops. Pets are welcome at most campsites subject to leash rules, but are not permitted in state park cabins or cabin areas.
