Campgrounds and RV parks near Franklinton, NC

Franklinton sits in Franklin County in the northeastern Piedmont of North Carolina, roughly midway between Raleigh and the Virginia border. The town is a practical base for RV travelers because two major lake-based state recreation areas fall within an easy drive: Falls Lake State Recreation Area to the south in Durham and Wake counties, and Kerr Lake State Recreation Area to the north in Vance and Warren counties along North Carolina's border with Virginia. Falls Lake is the closer option and the most family-oriented, with more than 300 campsites spread across several access areas. Holly Point and Rolling View are the two large drive-in campgrounds suitable for RVs, while BW Wells Group Campgrounds handles organized group stays. Kerr Lake is larger and quieter, built around a 50,000-acre reservoir with seven campgrounds and hundreds of campsites across eight access areas. Nutbush Creek is the most-used access on the North Carolina side. Tobacco Farm Campground offers a smaller, private-park alternative in the surrounding rural landscape near Henderson.

State-park campgrounds at Falls Lake and Kerr Lake are reserved through the North Carolina State Parks system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made for today and can be made up to 6 months in advance. For summer weekends at Holly Point, Rolling View, or Nutbush Creek, booking at the six-month mark is recommended. Group sites operate differently. Larger sites are available for group camping at Rolling View, Shinleaf, and BW Wells Group Campgrounds, by advance reservation only and for tents only, no RVs or trailers. RV parties should target the standard drive-in loops at Holly Point, Rolling View, or Nutbush Creek instead. Tobacco Farm Campground is privately operated and booked directly with the campground.
