Campgrounds and RV parks near Fremont, NC

The main outdoor draw is Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park. A series of cliffs rise about 90 feet above the Neuse River, with layers of sand, clay, seashells, shale, and gravel forming the multicolored cliff face. Roughly four miles of hiking trails include the Lake Trail and the Bird Trail, the Old Wagon Path for easy walking, and the Spanish Moss Trail loop accessed from the campground. The park has an 11-acre swimming lake with a sandy beach and diving platform, and seasonal kayak or boat rentals are available in nearby Seven Springs. The Neuse River is a popular spot for freshwater fishing, with common catches including catfish, bluegill, and largemouth bass. In town, the Governor Charles B. Aycock Birthplace State Historic Site offers a rainy-day stop close to the campgrounds.

Eastern North Carolina has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with warm days, cooler nights, and lower humidity than midsummer. The Neuse River corridor is especially scenic in April and October. Summer brings the highest temperatures and the wettest weather. August is the wettest month, with rain falling on roughly 18 days and averaging about 109 mm of precipitation. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and Atlantic hurricane season peaks between August and October, so travelers should track forecasts and confirm park status before arriving. The family campground at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park sits in a wooded area near the park office and is open year-round, so winter camping is possible for RVers with cold-tolerant rigs. The swimming lake typically has lifeguards on duty during the summer months, and some park facilities have limited off-season hours.

At Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park, occupancy is limited to one family or six people per site, with one RV and one tent, one pop-up and one tent, or two tents allowed per site. The campground has a bathhouse with toilets and hot showers, potable water spigots, and trash and recycling bins. A dump station is provided between sites 19 and 21. Pets are allowed except in park buildings and swim areas, but must be on a leash no longer than six feet and cannot be left unattended. Bring kiln-dried or heat-treated firewood to prevent the spread of invasive species, or buy on-site. The front gate is closed and locked at posted closing times; there is no exiting or entering after this time, and the combination is not given out. Plan arrivals accordingly.
