Campgrounds and RV parks near Frisco, NC

Frisco is an unincorporated community on Hatteras Island in Dare County, on North Carolina's Outer Banks. It sits between the villages of Buxton and Hatteras, with NC-12 as the only through road. Much of the surrounding land falls inside Cape Hatteras National Seashore. RV renters have a mix of options within a short drive. Frisco Campground, run by the National Park Service, sits atop oceanfront dunes at the end of Billy Mitchell Road. Frisco Woods Campgrounds Inc is on the Pamlico Sound side of NC-12 and offers a mix of RV sites, tent sites, camping cabins, and a large waterfront area for kiting, windsurfing, kayaking, and small boats. Cape Point Campground, also part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, is a short drive north near Buxton and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Island Hide-A-Way Campground and Hatteras Sands RV Resort round out the local choices. Expect a barrier-island setting: sand, wind, ocean on one side, sound on the other, and no shortcut back to the mainland if weather closes NC-12.

The two National Park Service campgrounds near Frisco use Recreation.gov. Sites at Frisco Campground can be reserved up to six months in advance at Recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777. Summer weekends and holidays fill quickly, so book as soon as the window opens. Cape Point Campground works differently. Because many sites flood after heavy rain, its reservation window is limited to same-day or a few days out. Plan on a walk-up attempt or a last-minute booking through Recreation.gov, and check the site before paying. Private parks such as Frisco Woods Campgrounds Inc, Island Hide-A-Way Campground, and Hatteras Sands RV Resort book directly through their own websites or by phone. For holiday weekends, reserve months ahead; hookups and sound-front sites go first.
