Campgrounds and RV parks near Holly Ridge, NC

The main draw is the beach. Surf City and Topsail Beach are a short drive from any Holly Ridge campground, with public access points, fishing piers, and a shallow, family-friendly surf zone. The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center on Topsail Island is a reliable rainy-day stop for families. On the water, visitors can launch kayaks and canoes into the sound behind Topsail, or take the seasonal passenger ferry from Hammocks Beach State Park to Bear Island for undeveloped beach, shelling, and swimming. The park also runs paddling trails through salt marsh and maritime forest. Inland, Holly Ridge is roughly 30 minutes from historic downtown Wilmington and the Cape Fear riverfront, and about 25 minutes from Jacksonville for provisioning.

Peak season on this stretch of coast runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when ocean water is warm, the Bear Island ferry runs daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and lifeguards are on duty Memorial Day through Labor Day. Expect the highest demand at Oceans RV Resort, Lanier's Campground, and Silver Sands RV Park during summer weekends and holiday weeks. Book well in advance for those dates. Shoulder months are often the best value. April, May, September, and October bring warm days, cooler nights, thinner crowds, and a reduced ferry schedule at Hammocks Beach: May and September run Wednesday through Sunday, while April and October run Friday through Sunday. Loggerhead sea turtles nest on Bear Island beaches between mid-May and late August, and white flashlights are prohibited on Bear Island at night during turtle nesting season, approximately May through October. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity from mid-August through October. Coastal campgrounds occasionally close ahead of tropical systems, so track forecasts and confirm cancellation policies before travel.

Sites in and around Holly Ridge are mostly level with 30 and 50 amp hookups, water, and sewer at private parks such as Oceans RV Resort and Silver Sands RV Park. Interior roads and pads are generally suitable for larger Class A and fifth-wheel rigs, though a few sound-side and older parks have low tree canopy and tighter turns. Amenities vary. Larger parks typically offer pools, laundry, and dog areas, while smaller waterfront sites focus on dock and boat-ramp access. Cell service across the Holly Ridge and Topsail area is generally strong. At Hammocks Beach State Park, expect a different experience: Simmons Mainland offers 12 full hook-up sites, 7 non-electric sites, primitive sites, and camper cabins, while Bear Island sites are primitive and fires are not permitted, though propane or backpack camp stoves are allowed. The Bear Island bathhouse is open mid-March through mid-November and winterized the rest of the year.
