Camping near Laurel Hill, North Carolina
Laurel Hill sits in Scotland County in the North Carolina Sandhills, along the US 74 corridor between Rockingham and Laurinburg and roughly 25 miles from the South Carolina line. The area gives RV travelers a quiet, rural base with access to the Pinehurst golf region to the north and the Pee Dee River country to the south.
Campgrounds in the immediate area range from small farm stays to full-service resorts. Idlewild Farm Stays and Camp Pedro sit closest to town, while Sycamore Lodge Resort occupies a larger property in the Sandhills near Jackson Springs on 194 wooded acres with more than 175 sites plus cabins. Bass Lake RV Campground offers another option for travelers passing through the region.
Cheraw State Park, about 25 miles southwest across the South Carolina line, adds a public-land option with lakeside sites on the 360-acre Lake Juniper and remains a strong draw for anglers, paddlers, and golfers staying in the area.
Things to do near Laurel Hill
Water and trails anchor most trips. Lake Juniper inside Cheraw State Park supports fishing, paddling, and boating, and the surrounding park covers more than 7,300 acres of longleaf pine forest that shelters the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. Kayaks and other boats are available for rent at the park.
Golf is a regional signature. Cheraw State Park has an 18-hole championship course designed by Tom Jackson, and the Pinehurst and Southern Pines courses lie a short drive north of Sycamore Lodge Resort.
Families can add Lake Paul Wallace in Bennettsville for picnicking and paddling, Rockingham Dragway for race weekends, and the Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge for wildlife drives and quiet sandy back roads.

Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, because Sandhills summers get hot and humid, and shaded breaks along the blackwater river will keep your dog happy all weekend.
ncparks.gov/state-parks/lumber-river-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or property in Laurel Hill?

They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. To book it, just filter listings by Delivery on RVezy and check the host's delivery radius and fee. ncparks.gov/state-parks/lumber-river-state-park/campingWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Laurel Hill?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV camping Laurel Hill, with daytime highs in the 60s to low 80s F and cool, comfortable nights in the 40s and 50s. April and May bring wildflowers along the Lumber River and far fewer mosquitos than summer. October and early November deliver crisp mornings, golden longleaf pines, and excellent paddling conditions. Summers are hot and muggy (highs near 90 F with high humidity), so plan early-morning hikes and lean on the RV's air conditioning. Winters are short and mild, rarely dropping below freezing for long, which makes Laurel Hill a smart shoulder-season escape when northern campgrounds are closed. Pro tip: book Lumber River State Park sites for the first weekend of April for peak conditions.
weather.gov/rah/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one in Laurel Hill?
You're going to do great, and Laurel Hill is honestly one of the easiest places in North Carolina to learn. The roads around Scotland County are flat, lightly trafficked, and built for trucks hauling pine and tobacco, so there's room to breathe. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, propane, water, slide-outs, and the dump procedure, so you won't be left guessing. If you're nervous about backing into a campsite, ask about delivery so the host parks it for you. Pro tip: take a 20-minute practice loop on quiet rural roads like NC Highway 144 before heading to your campground. By day two you'll feel like a pro.
ncdot.gov/initiatives-policies/safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat if I break down during my RV trip from Laurel Hill?
Breathe easy: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. If you blow a tire on US 74, run out of fuel near the South Carolina state line, or have a mechanical issue at the Chalk Banks campground, you call one number and help is dispatched. Your RVezy host is also a great first contact for quick questions like resetting a tripped breaker or relighting the water heater pilot. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after the trip as backup. Pro tip: take a photo of the roadside assistance contact card during your walkthrough so it's saved on your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Laurel Hill RV rental across state lines or into another country?
Yes, an RV road trip from Laurel Hill is perfect for crossing into South Carolina or anywhere within the continental US, since you're just 20 minutes from the SC state line on US 74. Popular routes include Myrtle Beach (75 miles south), Charleston (175 miles south), and the Great Smoky Mountains (about 6 hours west). Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance doesn't extend there, and trips into Canada need direct approval from your host before you book. Most hosts are happy to confirm cross-border plans by message. Pro tip: message the host before booking with your full route so they can confirm mileage and any state-line considerations.
cbp.gov/travelWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for an RV trip from Laurel Hill?
Most motorhomes you'll rent from Laurel Hill average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), while smaller Class B campervans can hit 18 to 22 MPG, and travel trailers depend on the truck towing them. North Carolina gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and you'll find affordable fuel stops in Laurinburg, Maxton, and at the big Pilot and Love's truck plazas along I-95 near Lumberton. Budget around $80 to $120 per day in fuel for a Class C on a moderate driving itinerary. Pro tip: top off in Scotland County before heading to Myrtle Beach, since gas inside resort towns often runs 20 to 40 cents per gallon more than rural NC pumps.

For the best sites near Laurel Hill, book three to six months ahead, especially for spring and fall weekends. North Carolina State Parks (including Lumber River's Chalk Banks and Princess Ann access areas) accept reservations up to six months in advance through the official NC State Parks reservation system, and peak weekends fill quickly. Private parks like Lumberton/I-95 KOA usually open booking a year out and can often handle last-minute weekday stays. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) often require a two-night minimum at state parks, so plan accordingly. Pro tip: if Chalk Banks shows full, check the Princess Ann access, which is on the same Wild and Scenic river but often has openings.

Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms in summer (June through August), which can drop heavy rain on US 74 and I-95. Deer are common at dawn and dusk on backroads near Laurinburg, so slow down in low light. Pro tip: avoid I-95 around Lumberton during Sunday afternoon beach return traffic if you're heading north.

visitnc.com/How does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Laurel Hill?
Payment for your RV rental in Laurel Hill is handled securely through RVezy at booking, with your card charged for the trip total, taxes, fees, and any add-ons you selected. A separate refundable security deposit is held on your card before pickup (the amount is shown clearly on each listing) to cover anything beyond normal wear, such as excess mileage or late returns. As long as you return the RV in the condition you received it, the hold is released after your trip ends. To avoid surprises, do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and dropoff with your host. Pro tip: keep fuel and propane receipts in case there's any question on refills.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a local insider tip for making the most of an RV trip in Laurel Hill?
Here's the move locals love: base your RV at Lumber River State Park's Chalk Banks access just outside Wagram (only 20 minutes from Laurel Hill), then spend a day paddling the federally designated Wild and Scenic blackwater river, the only one in North Carolina with that honor. Pack a cooler, rent kayaks from your RVezy host as an add-on, and float between the cypress and tupelo trees. Afterward, drive 15 minutes to the iconic South of the Border on I-95 for kitschy roadside fun, or hit Aloha Safari Park for a drive-thru animal experience the kids will talk about for years. That's a perfect Sandhills weekend most travelers never discover.
