Campgrounds and RV parks near Lillington, NC

Raven Rock State Park is the main outdoor draw. The park stretches along the Cape Fear River and takes its name from a 150-foot crystalline rock outcrop overlooking the water. Popular trails include the Raven Rock Loop out to the overlook, the shorter Little Creek Loop, and the longer Campbell Creek Loop. Paddling is permitted on the Cape Fear River, and the park has a canoe landing, though it does not rent equipment. Jordan Lake, reached from Poplar Point, adds swimming beaches, boat launches, and open-water paddling on one of the largest reservoirs in the region. Fishing is popular on both the lake and the river with a valid North Carolina license. Fayetteville, a short drive south, adds indoor family options for rainy days, including museums and shopping along the Cape Fear River corridor.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel around Lillington. March through May brings mild temperatures, blooming hardwoods, and moderate rain. September through early November cools off after summer humidity and generally offers some of the driest, most stable weather of the year. Summer is hot and humid. July highs average near 89 degrees Fahrenheit, and August is typically the wettest month on the Fayetteville climate record. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and campgrounds fill on weekends and holidays. This is also Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks in August and September. Lillington has seen major Cape Fear River flooding from tropical systems, including Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Florence, so travelers should monitor forecasts and river gauges during tropical activity. Winter is mild but variable. Raven Rock State Park Campground stays open year-round, and at Jordan Lake at least one of the three campgrounds remains open through the cold months, though water is shut off at individual campsites and remains available only at the shower houses. Snow is rare and usually light when it occurs.

At Raven Rock State Park Campground, RVs and trailers should not drive into the main day-use park entrance. The parking and roadways there are limited for large vehicles. Drivers should head directly to the Moccasin Branch Campground at 814 Moccasin Branch Road, and staff come around to check campers in at their sites. The nine RV sites offer 50-amp, 30-amp, and 20-amp service with full water and sewer, and a modern bathhouse serves the loop. At Poplar Point on Jordan Lake, there are no sewer hookups at individual campsites, but a dump station is located near the campground entrance. Crosswinds and Poplar Point have 24-hour access, while other Jordan Lake campgrounds close their gates overnight. Pets are allowed at most campsites on a leash of six feet or less, but are not permitted inside cabins or swim areas. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
