Campgrounds and RV parks near Mar-Mac, NC

The signature outdoor draw is Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park, where bluffs rise above the Neuse River, backed by hiking trails, a swimming lake, fishing access, picnic sites, and a visitor center with exhibits on the geology and natural history of the cliffs. Day trips from Mar-Mac reach Goldsboro city parks, the Bentonville Battlefield Civil War site west of Four Oaks, and shopping and restaurant clusters along I-95 near Selma and Smithfield. Families staying at private resorts also get on-site recreation, including pools, courts, dog parks, and playgrounds at the larger properties, which help keep kids busy on rainy or high-heat afternoons.

The Goldsboro area sits in a humid subtropical climate zone, with hot, muggy summers, mild winters, and rainfall spread across the calendar. Summer daytime highs commonly reach the upper 80s Fahrenheit, and July and August bring the peak of thunderstorm activity, along with Atlantic hurricane season risk that runs from June through November. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. March through May sees warming days, blooming dogwoods and azaleas, and lower humidity, while September through early November delivers cooler nights, thinning crowds, and river levels that are usually friendly for paddling and fishing. Winter is short and generally mild, with occasional freezes and rare light snow, mostly in January. The family campground at Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park is open year-round, and several private parks, including Raleigh Oaks RV and Cottage Resort, also operate every month, so off-season trips are practical.

Terrain around Mar-Mac is flat to gently rolling, with sandy soils, pine and hardwood forest, and river bottomland along the Neuse. Most private RV parks in the area offer level pull-through sites, full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, Wi-Fi, and big-rig access. At Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park, expect a wooded campground with a mix of full-hookup and non-hookup sites, potable water, and a dump station for campers without sewer connections. The front gate is closed and locked at posted closing times, and no re-entry is allowed after that, so late arrivals need to plan around park hours. Biting insects are common from late spring through early fall, and summer thunderstorms move through quickly, so basic awning and leveling gear should be ready.
