Campgrounds and RV parks near Pikeville, NC

Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park is the main draw. The park offers about four miles of hiking trails along river bluffs, an 11-acre swim lake with a sandy beach, seasonal boat rentals, and fishing on the Neuse River for catfish, bluegill, and largemouth bass. A visitor center features museum-quality exhibits on the geology and natural history of the cliffs, and paddlers can access the Neuse River Paddle Trail from within the park. Just outside Pikeville, the Governor Charles B. Aycock Birthplace State Historic Site preserves a mid-19th-century farmstead with a house, kitchen, outbuildings, and a period one-room schoolhouse. Admission is free, and the site sits less than two miles from central Pikeville.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel here. March through May brings mild days, blooming hardwoods, and generally lower humidity, while September through early November offers warm afternoons, cooler nights, and thinning crowds at Cliffs Of The Neuse. The state park family campground is open year-round, so shoulder-season trips are straightforward to plan. Summer is hot and humid. Daytime highs commonly reach the upper 80s Fahrenheit with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. This is also peak season for the state park swim lake and for family bookings at private RV parks, so weekends fill early. Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, with the highest risk of tropical systems affecting eastern North Carolina from August into October. Winters are short and generally mild, with occasional cold snaps and rare light snow. Some private parks may reduce hours or amenities in winter, while the Cliffs Of The Neuse family campground stays open year-round.

Cliffs Of The Neuse offers 12 full-hookup RV sites with 30- and 50-amp electric service, potable water, and sewer at the site, plus additional standard sites without hookups. Amenities include a dump station, a shower house with hot showers and flush toilets, and firewood for sale at the park. Sites sit in a wooded loop, and campground hosts are typically on-site to assist campers and sell firewood. Pets are allowed at campsites on an attended leash no longer than six feet, but are not permitted on the swim beach, inside buildings, or in the camper cabins. Campfires and firewood policies encourage using kiln-dried or locally sourced wood to limit invasive pests. Expect sandy soil at sites, and note that the front gate is closed at posted closing times, with no re-entry after hours.
