Campgrounds near Amanda, Ohio
Amanda is a small village in Fairfield County in central Ohio, roughly halfway between Lancaster and Circleville and about forty-five minutes southeast of Columbus. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of Hocking Hills, the Scioto River valley, and several established Ohio State Park campgrounds, making it a practical base for a mixed itinerary of state park sites and private RV parks.
The closest full-service options are Lancaster RV Campground and Lakeview RV Park and Campground, both near Lancaster with standard hookups aimed at RV travelers. Lakeview RV Park and Campground sits in a scenic spring-fed quarry setting and offers 30 and 50 amp electric, water and sewer connections, pull-through sites, a dump station, and laundry facilities.
For public-land camping, A.W. Marion State Park sits just northeast of Circleville and surrounds 145-acre Hargus Lake with hiking, fishing, and boating. Farther south in the Appalachian foothills, Ross Hollow at Tar Hollow State Park is nestled within Ohio's third-largest state forest. Jackson Lake Park, a private campground and resort in Oak Hill, rounds out the wider set of nearby options for travelers willing to drive south.
Things to do near Amanda
Water recreation anchors most trips. Hargus Lake at A.W. Marion State Park covers 145 acres, allows hand-powered vessels and boats with electric motors, and holds largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. Seasonal boat rentals are available at the marina. At Lakeview RV Park and Campground, the on-site lake supports fishing and paddling.
Hiking is strongest at Tar Hollow. The park offers two main hiking trails, the roughly five-mile Ross Hollow Trail and the 21-mile Logan Boy Scout Trail, both beginning near the campground and entering the surrounding forest. A section of Ohio's Buckeye Trail also passes through the area.
Families staying at Jackson Lake Park get access to a swimming pool, lake activities under waiver, disc golf, and scheduled events. Hocking Hills, with Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave, sits within a short drive for day trips.

Central Ohio has four distinct seasons, and campground operating windows reflect that. Private parks trend toward warm-season operation, typically opening in mid-April and closing by the end of October, though shoulder-season access varies by operator.
State park seasons vary by property. A.W. Marion State Park Campground operates seasonally from late March through early November, with reservations through ReserveOhio. Tar Hollow's campground stays open year-round, though amenities scale back in winter; reviewers note the park is mostly closed for late fall and winter while camping, showers, and restrooms remain available.
Summer weekends and holidays draw the heaviest demand at state park sites, particularly at Tar Hollow given its proximity to Hocking Hills. Fall color peaks in mid to late October and brings a second surge in bookings. Spring wildflower season in the Appalachian foothills is quieter but wet, with muddy trails common. Winter camping is possible at Tar Hollow, but expect limited services and cold, damp conditions.

How to book
Ohio State Park sites at A.W. Marion and Ross Hollow at Tar Hollow are booked through the state's central system. Reservations may be made up to six months in advance online at ReserveOhio.com or by calling (866) 644-6727. An account is required before booking.
Quiet hours run from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM at Ohio State Parks, with a maximum of two vehicles per site, where a camping trailer or motorhome counts as one vehicle. On pet-friendly sites, up to two pets are permitted, and pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet and attended at all times.
Private parks handle their own bookings. Jackson Lake Park takes reservations through its own website and phone, and Lakeview RV Park and Lancaster RV Campground take reservations directly. For summer weekends and fall-color weekends, book state park sites as early as the six-month window allows.
What to expect on site
State park campgrounds in this area are wooded and rustic. A.W. Marion offers 58 campsites along the shores of Hargus Lake, with 29 sites providing 50-amp electric hookups and the remainder non-electric. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, and the campground includes flush restrooms, vault latrines, and a dump station. Some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 to 50 feet.
Tar Hollow is more primitive. The Ross Hollow campground offers electric RV sites with a dump station, showers, and pit latrines, and drinking water is available from centralized taps. Cell service is essentially nonexistent inside the park.
Private parks lean full-hookup. Lakeview RV Park features big-rig-friendly 30 and 50-amp full-hookup sites, many with concrete patios that accommodate slide-outs. Expect gravel or paved pads, closer spacing, and pool or lake access at private parks.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Amanda,OhioDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Amanda, Ohio?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Amanda, Ohio. Ohio does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every RV on RVezy. Approved drivers must generally be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? reserveohio.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Amanda, Ohio?
Late April through late October is prime season for an Amanda RV trip. Spring (April to May) brings 55 to 70 F days, blooming dogwoods, and full waterfalls at Hocking Hills. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid, with highs of 82 to 88 F, perfect for lake days at Hargus Lake or Buckeye Lake. Fall (mid-September through October) is the sweet spot: crisp 60 to 75 F days, fewer bugs, and the southeast Ohio hills turn red and gold. Winters get cold (20 to 40 F) with occasional snow, so most renters stick to the warmer months. Pro tip: book the first two weekends of October early, fall foliage demand is intense.
weather.gov/iln/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting one in Amanda?
You'll be just fine. Most guests booking their first time renting an RV in Amanda have no prior experience, and hosts here are known for being patient and thorough. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering driving tips, hookups, slide-outs, the water system, and the generator. Amanda's rural roads and the highways heading toward Lancaster (US-22) and Circleville (US-22/SR-188) are forgiving for beginners. If you're still nervous, choose delivery so the host handles all driving and setup. Pro tip: start with a smaller Class C or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first Amanda RV rental, you'll thank yourself on the first turn.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my trip?
Help is always a phone call away. Every motorhome rental in Amanda includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the RVezy protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. If something stops working inside the RV (fridge, AC, water pump), message your host first, they often know exactly how to troubleshoot their own rig. For anything bigger, RVezy's support team is reachable through the app. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before pickup, and snap photos of the RV's exterior at handoff, this small habit prevents many common headaches.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are popular road trips I can take from Amanda, OH?
Amanda is a fantastic launchpad for an RV road trip thanks to its central Ohio location. Top routes: the Hocking Hills loop (about 30 minutes south, with waterfalls and cliffs); Ohio Amish Country via Berlin and Millersburg (about 2 hours northeast); Lake Erie and the Marblehead Lighthouse (about 2.5 hours north); Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland (about 2.5 hours); and the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee (about 6 hours south). For a long weekend, Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky is about 5 hours away. Pro tip: cross-border travel into neighboring US states is allowed on RVezy rentals, but plan your route to stay inside permitted regions and confirm with your host before crossing borders.
nps.gov/cuva/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on an Amanda RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable, but it's easy to plan. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG, campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG). Ohio gas prices typically run near or slightly below the national average. A round trip from Amanda to Hocking Hills (about 60 miles) costs roughly $20 to $40 in fuel; Amanda to Cleveland and back (about 300 miles) is closer to $100 to $150. Pro tip: the Pilot and Love's truck stops along I-70 east of Columbus have RV-friendly pumps with extra clearance, perfect for tall Class A rentals.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Amanda?
Earlier is better, but you have options. Ohio state park campgrounds (Hocking Hills, Tar Hollow, A.W. Marion) open reservations 6 months in advance through the ReserveOhio system, and popular weekends, especially summer holidays and October foliage weekends at Hocking Hills, can fill the moment booking opens. Private parks like Top O' The Caves typically need 1 to 3 months notice for peak weekends. Midweek and shoulder-season trips are often bookable just a week or two out. Pro tip: if Hocking Hills is full, look at Lake Hope State Park or Burr Oak State Park (both about an hour from Amanda), they're stunning and far less crowded for RV camping near Amanda.
reserveohio.com/What are driving conditions like around Amanda, Ohio?
Driving an RV around Amanda is manageable. The area is rural and rolling rather than mountainous, with two-lane state routes (SR-22, SR-188, US-22) connecting Lancaster, Circleville, and Logan. Watch for low-clearance railroad underpasses in older towns like Lancaster (some are under 12 feet), and avoid the narrow Hocking Hills back roads in a Class A, sticking instead to SR-664 and SR-374. Winter (December to February) can bring snow and ice, so most trips run April through November. Pro tip: if you're driving into Columbus, avoid I-70 and I-270 between 4 and 6 PM weekdays, take SR-33 from Lancaster instead, it's smoother and far less stressful in a big rig.

Campgrounds near Amanda generally offer everything you need for a comfortable trip. Hocking Hills State Park has full hookups (electric, water, sewer), hot showers, a camp store, a pool, and dump stations. A.W. Marion and Tar Hollow offer electric sites plus centralized water and dump stations. Most private parks like Top O' The Caves include Wi-Fi, laundry, and 50-amp service. For dumping and water fills on the road, look for sites listed as Full Hookup, or use the dump station at Hocking Hills State Park even if you're staying elsewhere (small fee for non-campers). Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-amp to 50-amp adapter, central Ohio parks mix both pedestal types.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/camp-lodgeWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Amanda?
Most RV rentals in Amanda come fully equipped and ready for the road. Expect a queen or king bed in the main bedroom, bunk or convertible sleeping for kids, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Class C and Class A motorhomes typically include a generator, roof AC, furnace, TV, and seatbelts for every passenger (Ohio law requires them). Many listings now include Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and even Starlink for streaming near Hocking Hills. Travel trailers and fifth wheels usually have similar interiors but require a capable tow vehicle. Pro tip: filter listings by Sleeps count and check the photo gallery carefully, that's where hosts highlight extras like awnings, bikes, and outdoor kitchens.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Amanda,OhioWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect with an Amanda RV rental?
Hosts in Amanda offer a great mix of add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include linens and towel packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), generators or propane refills, outdoor chairs and tables, bike racks, kayaks, and pet kits. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Amanda, Lancaster, or Circleville, and dropoff is at the same location, though many hosts offer delivery for an extra fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, so always check before booking. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during the initial booking, hosts are typically more flexible on pricing upfront than after the trip starts, especially during peak Hocking Hills weekends.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Amanda,OhioHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. At booking you'll be charged a portion of your trip total, with the balance due before pickup. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is held on your card before your trip begins and released after a clean return with no damage. To protect that deposit, do the walkaround with your host, take timestamped photos at pickup and dropoff, follow the mileage and generator-hour limits, and return the RV at the agreed fuel level. Pro tip: dump and rinse the tanks before returning, many Amanda hosts charge a cleaning fee for full waste tanks.
