Campgrounds near Ashville, Ohio
Ashville sits in Pickaway County in central Ohio, roughly 20 miles south of Columbus along the US-23 corridor. The village is a practical base for RV travelers heading to state parks in the Scioto Valley and the western edge of the Hocking Hills region, with a mix of state park campgrounds and smaller private RV parks within an easy drive.
The closest public option is A.W. Marion State Park, which offers 58 campsites along the shores of 145-acre Hargus Lake, with twenty-nine sites providing 50-amp electric hookups and the remaining sites non-electric. Great Seal State Park sits farther south near Chillicothe, while Jackson Lake Park in Canal Winchester, Lancaster RV Campground, and Alton RV Park serve travelers looking for full hookups closer to town.
Most campgrounds in the area cater to family RV travel with paved or gravel pads, dump stations, and lake or trail access nearby. State parks are run by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and private parks handle their own booking systems.
Things to do near Ashville
Water recreation is the main draw at the nearest state parks. Hargus Lake at A.W. Marion State Park provides 145 acres of water, boat launching ramps, and public docks, rentals are available from the concession on the northwest side of the lake, and electric motors only are permitted. Anglers target largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish from shore and small boats.
Hikers have several options close by. The Hargus Lake Trail offers five miles of scenic pleasure, providing access to the entire shoreline of the lake, and beginning at the campground, the Squawroot Nature Trail offers one mile of scenic terrain. Great Seal State Park, closer to Chillicothe, features steeper ridge trails popular with hikers and mountain bikers.
Families staying at Lancaster RV Campground, Jackson Lake Park, or Alton RV Park can day-trip to the Hocking Hills, the Columbus Zoo, or the Circleville Pumpkin Show in October.

The main camping window at Ohio state parks in this area runs from spring through late fall. A.W. Marion operates seasonally from late March through early November, and reservations are available through ReserveOhio. Private parks like Lancaster RV Campground, Jackson Lake Park, and Alton RV Park generally keep longer seasons and may accept off-season RV stays with electric service.
Late spring and early summer bring warm days, active fishing, and full trails. A.W. Marion is a birding destination during spring migration, which makes April and May attractive for nature-focused trips. Summer weekends draw the heaviest crowds at lakeside sites, so booking well ahead is important.
Fall offers cooler nights, thinner crowds, and foliage color across the Scioto Valley, with the Circleville Pumpkin Show typically pulling regional visitors in mid-October. Winter camping is limited: most state park sites close, and RV travelers rely on private parks with winterized utilities.

How to book campgrounds near Ashville
Ohio state park sites, including A.W. Marion and Great Seal, are booked through the ReserveOhio system operated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Reservations are available starting 6 months prior to the desired arrival date for campsites, and campsite reservations can be made as late as the day of arrival, so summer weekends and holidays should be locked in early.
Private parks such as Lancaster RV Campground, Jackson Lake Park in Canal Winchester, and Alton RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and typically require a card at booking. The minimum stay for regular weekend reservations at Ohio state parks is 2 nights, and on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends the minimum is 3 nights.
Check individual site length limits before booking a larger rig, and review each park's pet, vehicle, and quiet-hour policies at the time of reservation.
What to expect
State park campgrounds in this area lean rustic. A.W. Marion is a small, pet-friendly campground with flush restrooms, ball courts, and a camp store as well as vault latrines, and no showers are available on site. Travelers who want full hookups and shower houses should plan on Lancaster RV Campground, Jackson Lake Park, or Alton RV Park instead.
Each site features a fire ring and picnic table, the campground provides flush restrooms, vault latrines, and a dump station for RV convenience, and the camp store stocks essentials, with a playground, ball courts, and an amphitheater within the campground. Some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 to 50 feet.
Cell coverage is generally solid near Ashville and Circleville but can dip in wooded state park loops. Bring water hoses, leveling blocks, and insect repellent, especially for lakeside sites in summer.

Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and their insurance, so just message the host through the listing to confirm before booking. cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on an Ashville RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's easy to budget for an RV rental Ohio trip. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle's MPG typically drops 30 to 40 percent while towing. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A coaches average 6 to 9 MPG. Ohio gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, often $3.00 to $3.40 per gallon in the Ashville and Circleville area. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up off the highway at Pilot or Love's near US-23 south of Columbus, where prices and pull-through access are RV-friendly.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Ashville?
Earlier is better, especially for Ohio State Parks. Reservations open six months in advance through the official Ohio State Parks reservation system, and prime summer weekends at Alum Creek, Deer Creek, and A.W. Marion State Park near Ashville often book within hours of opening. For Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends, treat the six-month mark like an alarm clock. Private campgrounds and KOAs typically have more flexibility, sometimes accepting bookings just days out. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, target Sunday-through-Thursday stays, which are easier to score and noticeably quieter. Pair your reservation confirmation with an RV rental in Ashville, OH and you've locked in your trip.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/reserve-a-facilityWhat are the driving conditions like around Ashville, OH?
Driving is refreshingly easy around Ashville, OH. The roads are mostly flat to gently rolling farmland and small towns, with US-23 serving as the main north-south corridor connecting you to Columbus in about 30 minutes and Chillicothe in 40. Always confirm your RV's height before you head out and watch posted clearances on local routes. Winter (December through February) can bring icy patches and occasional snow, so many Ashville-area hosts limit winter use, while summer thunderstorms can roll in fast (a quick stop at a rest area solves that). Pro tip: if you are nervous about the I-270 outerbelt around Columbus, time your trip to avoid the 4 to 6 p.m. rush, or take the quieter US-23 to SR-104 route instead.

If you need to dump or refill between stays, the Pilot Travel Center in Lockbourne (just north of Ashville on US-23) has RV-friendly facilities. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-to-50 amp adapter so you're ready for anything.

Generators and solar panels are common on Class B and C rigs, perfect for boondocking at Wayne National Forest. Seatbelts vary by RV, so check the listing if you need belted seating for kids. visitpickawaycounty.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and handled entirely inside the RVezy platform, so you never need to hand cash or a check to a host. When you book a campervan rental in Ashville, OH or a motorhome on RVezy, you pay securely with a credit card and the booking is confirmed once the host accepts. The refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is released back to you after the trip, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition you received it. To avoid any deposit issues, take a quick video walkaround at pickup and drop-off, return with the agreed fuel and tank levels, and tidy up before returning the RV. Pro tip: keep those videos until your deposit is back.

It's only about 45 miles southeast on US-33, and you'll find waterfalls, hemlock gorges, and the iconic Old Man's Cave at Hocking Hills State Park, which has a full-hookup campground. Extend the trip another 60 miles to Wayne National Forest for boondocking, or swing west to Deer Creek State Park (30 miles from Ashville) for lake views and a championship golf course. For a family RV trip Ashville families love, do a three-stop loop: A.W. Marion State Park night one, Hocking Hills nights two and three, Deer Creek night four.
