Campgrounds and RV parks near Bay View, OH

Cedar Point is the dominant regional attraction, sitting on a peninsula across Sandusky Bay from Bay View. Downtown Sandusky adds waterfront dining, the Merry-Go-Round Museum, and ferry terminals for the Lake Erie Islands. Anglers can launch on Sandusky Bay or run out to open Lake Erie, widely known as a top walleye and perch fishery. East Harbor State Park offers a 1,500-foot Lake Erie sand beach, more than 10 miles of multi-use trails, an 18-hole disc golf course, and marina access with boat ramps and dockage. The park also lies on the fringe of Ohio's prairie marsh zone, making it a strong spring and fall birding stop for migrating waterfowl and songbirds staging before crossing Lake Erie.

Peak season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, driven by Cedar Point's operating calendar, warm Lake Erie swimming temperatures, and school breaks. Private campgrounds around Sandusky Bay fill weeks in advance for summer weekends, and East Harbor's most desirable loops often book right at the six-month reservation window. Spring and fall are quieter, cooler, and strong for birding, as the Marblehead Peninsula sits along a major Lake Erie migration corridor. East Harbor's full campground is in service during the warm-weather months, so shoulder-season RV campers should confirm which loops are open before arrival. Winter camping is limited. East Harbor stays open year-round, but from November 1 through April 1 only electric sites B1 through B64 are available, and most private parks in the Bay View area close for the winter. Ice fishing and quiet trail use are the main cold-weather draws.

Private campgrounds in the Sandusky Bay area typically offer 30 and 50-amp service, full hookups on many sites, pools, laundry, and family programming aimed at Cedar Point visitors. Sites tend to be closer together than at state parks, and pull-through options for larger rigs are common at properties like Crystal Rock Campground and Camp Sandusky. East Harbor State Park runs larger and more wooded, with a seasonal camp store (April through October), showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and two campground boat ramps open to registered campers from April 1 through October 31. Pets are permitted at all East Harbor sites, and free Wi-Fi is available for registered campers. Grocery, fuel, and RV supplies are easy to find in Sandusky and Port Clinton.
