Campgrounds and RV parks near Commercial Point, OH

Water recreation anchors most trips in this area. Hargus Lake at AW Marion State Park allows hand-powered vessels and electric-motor boats, with fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. The park has about four miles of hiking trails and a designated off-leash area where supervised dogs can access the lake. Hiking gets more demanding at Great Seal State Park, where trails climb Sugarloaf Mountain and cross the 1,862-acre park on their way to ridgetop views of the Scioto Valley. The rugged hills within the park are depicted on the Great Seal of Ohio. For day trips, Commercial Point sits within easy reach of Columbus attractions, the historic town of Circleville, and the western edge of the Hocking Hills region for waterfalls and rock formations.

Camping season in central and southern Ohio is shaped by hard freezes and wet springs. AW Marion State Park Campground operates from late March through early November, and Jackson Lake Park opens seasonally, typically from April through December. Great Seal State Park Campground follows a similar pattern, closing in winter, so cold-weather camping options in the area are limited to private year-round parks such as Alton RV Park. Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year, with saturated ground and periodic thunderstorms. Sites reopen in late March, but shoulder-season nights can drop below freezing well into April. Summer is warm and humid, drawing peak reservation demand for weekends at state park lakes. Fall is often the most comfortable window for RV travel in this region, with cool nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color across Pickaway and Ross counties. Hunting is permitted on designated state park lands during posted seasons, so campers should note posted rules during autumn stays.

State park campgrounds in this area lean rustic rather than resort-style. AW Marion State Park offers 58 sites, with 29 carrying 50-amp electric hookups and the rest non-electric, plus flush restrooms, vault latrines, a dump station, a camp store, ball courts, a playground, and an amphitheater. Sites can accommodate rigs up to 40 feet, with some suited to rigs up to 50 feet. Great Seal State Park is primitive, with 15 walk-in sites, horse picket lines behind sites 1 through 10, pressurized water, and vault latrines, but no hookups. Jackson Lake Park offers 34 electric sites with 50-amp service suited to rigs up to 35 feet, potable water, vault toilets, and a dump station. Alton RV Park keeps level gravel full-hookup sites, geared more toward overnight and short stays than long recreation.
