Camping near Lithopolis, Ohio
Lithopolis is a small Fairfield County village southeast of Columbus, sitting on the till plain of central Ohio at roughly 800 feet of elevation. The area suits RV travelers who want quiet farmland surroundings within a short drive of the state capital, Buckeye Lake, and the northern edge of the Hocking Hills region.
Campground options within a reasonable drive range from private RV parks to an Ohio state park campground. Jackson Lake Park in nearby Canal Winchester offers full hookup sites, a swimming lake, a pool, and a disc golf course. AW Marion State Park, about 20 minutes south near Circleville, wraps around 145-acre Hargus Lake and offers electric and non-electric sites on a rolling wooded loop with a dump station.
Farther out, Lancaster RV Campground and Lakeview RV Park and Campground sit near Lancaster with sites geared to RVs, while Buckeye Lake / Columbus East KOA Holiday puts travelers within easy reach of Columbus attractions and Interstate 70. The mix works well for families balancing city day trips with lake and trail time.
Things to do near Lithopolis
Water recreation anchors most trips. Hargus Lake at AW Marion State Park permits hand-powered craft and boats with electric motors only, with boat rentals, public docks, and fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. Buckeye Lake, a short drive northeast, adds powerboating, swimming, and skiing.
On land, AW Marion State Park has about four miles of hiking trails through mature woodland, and Jackson Lake Park offers an on-site disc golf course, a swimming lake with inflatables in summer, a pool, and organized kids' activities like tie-dye and archery.
Day trips expand the itinerary. Columbus attractions such as the Columbus Zoo, COSI, and German Village are within easy reach, and the Hocking Hills region, with Old Man's Cave, Rock House, and Conkle's Hollow, sits roughly an hour south for waterfalls, rock shelters, and longer hikes.

Central Ohio has four distinct seasons. Summer runs warm and humid with average highs in the mid-80s Fahrenheit, making it the busiest camping window and the time when swim areas, camp stores, and lake rentals are fully staffed. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day book up early at both state park and private campgrounds.
Spring and fall bring cooler nights, fewer bugs, and lighter crowds. Fall foliage across the mature woodlands at AW Marion State Park and the wider region typically peaks in mid to late October, and shoulder-season sites are easier to secure. Expect variable rain in spring and cool overnight lows through November.
Winter closes most campgrounds in the area. Ohio state park campgrounds like AW Marion typically operate from late March through early November, and several private parks near Lancaster follow a similar spring to fall window. Jackson Lake Park runs a longer late-spring through early-fall season, so check operator dates before booking outside peak summer.
