Campgrounds and RV parks near Millersport, OH

Buckeye Lake is the main draw. It is designated an unlimited-horsepower lake, so powerboats, water skiing, pontoons, sailboats, and paddle craft all share the water. Public launch ramps sit at North Shore in the village of Buckeye Lake, at Liebs Island near the park office in Millersport, and at Fairfield Beach on the south side. Anglers target perch, bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, and channel and bullhead catfish with a valid Ohio fishing license. On shore, three public swimming areas at Fairfield Beach, Brooks Park, and Crystal Beach open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Cranberry Bog State Nature Preserve, a National Natural Landmark, floats in the middle of the lake and is accessible only by boat on limited open days. For kid-friendly outings, Dawes Arboretum lies a short drive north, and the Columbus Zoo, COSI, and The Wilds are within day-trip range.

Spring through fall is the practical camping window. Central Ohio has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold winters, and precipitation is spread through the year with slightly wetter late spring and early summer. Most private RV parks in the area operate on a seasonal schedule that tracks that pattern, with peak activity from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Summer is the busiest stretch. Beaches and boat ramps operate at full capacity, and weekend sites at parks near the lake book out well in advance. Late August into early September brings the Millersport Lions Sweet Corn Festival, held the Wednesday through Saturday before Labor Day at Historic Lions Park on Chautauqua Boulevard. It is a major regional draw and puts heavy pressure on nearby campgrounds and roads. Fall shifts the mix toward fishing, Dawes Arboretum foliage, and quieter weekdays. Winter is cold with regular snow; state park day-use areas remain open, but most private RV parks close or reduce service.

Sites near Buckeye Lake are set in flat to gently rolling farmland and canal country, not deep forest. Expect open lawns, mature shade trees on established sites, and easy pull-in access at the closer commercial parks. Buckeye Lake / Columbus East KOA Holiday offers back-in and full-hookup RV sites plus cabins, with a dump station on site. Buckeye Lake State Park itself is a day-use park, so plan to camp at a private park and drive in for beaches, launch ramps, and picnicking. Cell coverage across the area is generally strong on major carriers, and grocery, fuel, and restaurants are available in Buckeye Lake village, Hebron, and Lancaster. Families should pack for lake use rather than backcountry: swim gear, sun protection, bug spray for evenings, and life jackets for kids on any boat.
