Campgrounds and RV parks near Minerva Park, OH

Alum Creek Reservoir is the main draw for campers in this area. The lake covers 3,387 acres and is known for bass, panfish, walleye, and muskie fishing. More than 3,000 feet of sandy beachfront stretches along the west shore of the reservoir, and boaters have access to multiple launch ramps with unlimited horsepower permitted on the water south of Cheshire Road. On land, Alum Creek State Park maintains 38 miles of bridle trails and more than 20 miles of mountain bike trails, along with several miles of hiking paths. A four-acre lakeside dog park lets pets cool off with a swim as well. Families staying at Cross Creek Camping Resort are within easy reach of the Columbus Zoo, Zoombezi Bay Waterpark, and Olentangy Indian Caverns, plus the shopping and dining around the Polaris area just south of the campground.

Central Ohio has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Columbus experiences large seasonal temperature contrasts: summers are warm and humid, winters are cold, and precipitation is spread relatively evenly through the year with a modest late-spring peak. Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when lake temperatures support swimming and boating and private resorts run their full activity calendars. Weekends and holidays fill quickly at Alum Creek State Park, and popular sites are often reserved months in advance for July and August. Late spring and early fall offer cooler nights, lighter crowds, and good conditions for hiking and mountain biking on the Alum Creek trails. Winter operations are limited. Off-peak service at Alum Creek runs from November 1 to April 15, with Area 2 and the A, B, and G rows available and other areas limited. Full hook-up sites have sewer but no water during off-peak, and restrooms are closed. Most private campgrounds close or run reduced operations in the coldest months.

At Alum Creek State Park, expect a large, tree-shaded loop layout. Pets are welcome on all sites. The campground offers 286 electric sites in both wooded and sunny areas, some overlooking the lake, each with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp service. In addition, 37 full-service campsites provide electric, sewer, and water hookups. Check-in is 3 p.m., all camping units must be backed in, and check-out is 1 p.m. for campsites and 11 a.m. for cabins. Private parks in the area lean toward a resort-style experience with pools, playgrounds, camp stores, and weekend activities. Sites tend to be closer together than at the state park. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the Columbus metro, and Wi-Fi quality varies by park and site.
