Campgrounds and RV parks near Mount Carmel, OH

The main outdoor hub is East Fork State Park and its reservoir, William H. Harsha Lake, a roughly 2,100-acre impoundment. The park maintains a long backcountry perimeter trail along with hiking, swimming, and boating. The lake allows unlimited-horsepower boating with multiple launch ramps, and a designated swimming beach with restrooms operates in season. Anglers target largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, and hybrid striped bass. Across the river, AJ Jolly Park adds an approximately 200-acre lake, roughly 20 miles of equestrian trails and a few miles of hiker-only trails, an 18-hole golf course, and a disc golf course, though the lake is closed to fishing in 2026. Downtown Cincinnati attractions, the Cincinnati Zoo, and Kings Island are all within a short drive for rest-day trips.

Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Cincinnati summers are warm and humid, with average highs in the mid-80s Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Highs reach into the 90s on a few dozen days most years, scattered through late spring and summer. Weekends and holidays at East Fork fill early, so book well in advance. Spring brings the wettest weather of the year, with May typically the rainiest month. Trails can be muddy, and river levels along the Little Miami and Ohio run high. Fall is drier and cooler, with comfortable daytime temperatures through October and reliable foliage color from mid to late October. Winter camping is possible but limited. From late November into March, subfreezing days are common and overnight lows regularly drop into the 20s Fahrenheit. AJ Jolly's campground is closed for 2026, and shelter reservations are handled by phone through Campbell County Parks at 859-547-3681, so verify status before planning a Kentucky-side trip.

Site types vary widely. At East Fork, electric and full-hookup sites are available at standard Ohio State Park rates, along with primitive camping. The Class A campground sits off Old State Route 32 in Batavia, and loops hold most family sites while a separate horse camp serves equestrian users. AJ Jolly's RV sites have water and 20/30 amp electric service, a picnic table, and a fire ring, with no sewer hookups; sites 20-46 are best suited for pop-ups and small campers due to a tight turning radius, while sites 47-53 and "The Point" have 50 amp electric service. Larger Class A rigs should confirm site dimensions before booking, and note the campground is closed for 2026. Expect standard state-park amenities at East Fork: shower houses, dump stations, and playgrounds. Private parks near Mount Carmel typically offer full hookups, easier pull-throughs, and shorter access to Cincinnati.
