Campgrounds and RV parks near Newport, OH

Newport sits along the Ohio River in Washington County, southeast Ohio, roughly 15 miles downriver from Marietta and directly across from the Mid-Ohio Valley of West Virginia. The location puts RV travelers within easy reach of campgrounds on both sides of the river, from small riverside parks in Ohio to a full state park system across the state line in West Virginia. Close-in options include Castle Care Campground and American Way RV Park on the Ohio side, plus Ashland RV Park and Blennerhassett RV Park near Parkersburg. For a more traditional state park experience, River Run at North Bend State Park lies roughly an hour east near Cairo, West Virginia, offering wooded sites along the North Fork of the Hughes River. Most private parks in the area lean toward full-hookup RV sites geared to travelers on U.S. 50 and Ohio Route 7, while the state park adds tent loops, hiking, and lake access. The mix makes Newport a practical base for a river-focused trip or a stopover between the Appalachians and the Midwest.

At North Bend State Park, River Run and Cokeley campgrounds are open from mid-April through October 31, but advance reservations are only accepted from Memorial Day through Labor Day, at 15 of the electric sites at River Run. Outside that window, sites are first-come, first-served. Reservations can be made online through the West Virginia State Parks site or by phone. Private parks near Newport, including Castle Care Campground, American Way RV Park, Ashland RV Park, and Blennerhassett RV Park, are booked directly with the operator by phone or through their websites. Full-hookup sites at these parks fill quickly during summer weekends and around major events in Marietta and Parkersburg, so reserving several weeks out is prudent.
